March 13 HAT MAN Men's 50 230 posts | Quick understanding of this rule §8.5(5) • COURTESY RUNNER OFFICIALLY IN THE GAME A courtesy runner must report to, and be acknowledged by, the umpire before play resumes. A courtesy runner may enter the game only prior to the first pitch to any batter. A courtesy runner is in the game when he touches the base. If a courtesy runner is determined illegal, he will be called out upon touching the base and no other courtesy unner is allowed. The original runner may not return as the runner. An illegal courtesy runner on base is committing a continuing violation and may be called out upon appeal at any time while on base or, if he scores, prior to the first pitch to the next batter. Trying to understand how can a runner score before the next pitch? Follow up if cr runs illegally but not caught until they advance to another bag he becomes legal correct? |

Thus, it's a continuing violation and may be the subject of an appeal at any time while on base OR, in the event he scores, prior to the first pitch to the next batter ... Example: Illegal CR running (which base is irrelevant) ... Batter gets a base hit that scores the CR ... Defense appeals saying, "Hey, he was an illegal CR" and umpire agrees ... CR out on appeal and no run scored ... NOTE: After that theoretical "next pitch", the CR who scored is/was still illegal, but appeal rights by the defense expire ... |
March 13 HAT MAN Men's 50 230 posts | Oh ok got it. I read it as the very next batter period but that's only related to a score. If dinner is on second or 3rd and a ttam v catches it they can appeal |

March 19 Wayne 37 Men's 65 773 posts | We close threads for a variety of reasons, most often for [1] personal derogatory sniping between posters and [2] cyclical redundancy on points adequately answered in previous posts in a given thread ... You are too often a world class offender on both counts ... ** THREAD CLOSED [1] Physician heal thyself. [2] Hey guys...after reading umpire 14's answer. I have not laughed so hard since I realized that even a couple of idiots sound like geniuses to another idiot. [grin] Sorry it took me so long, but I was doing radiation and chemotherapy all last week and had to help my wife who had to go into the hospital for a couple of days. Aw heck, look who I'm talking to. People that think you need a foul tip strike in softball even if the baserunner can't ADVANCE TO BEGIN WITH!!!! There is word for that. It's FOUL BALL!!!! |
