Nov. 8 Geeksquad21 6 posts | We have had discussions about a tournament where the umpires said that there is no front to the batters box. In other words if the batter moves up in the batters and who certainly would be out of the box completely when he makes contact with the ball. Is not out. Is this true? |
Nov. 8 DaveDowell Men's 70 4321 posts | If this is SSUSA sanctioned play, what you have is an umpire who is either: 1. Grossly uninformed; 2. Highly incompetent; 3. Lazy; 4. Making the rule(s) up as he/she goes along; or 5. ALL OF THE ABOVE ◄ My favorite answer! The front of the batter's box must be observed and enforced for Pitcher Protection ... It's inconceivable and unacceptable for an umpire in SSUSA sanctioned play (and probably a lot of other association sanctions) to make this type of erroneous assertion ... CURIOSITY QUESTION: At which tournament was this "curious" and dangerous rule interpretation in play? ... Thanks! |

I've seen hitters called out for being out of the box. I've been called out for being "out of the box" but, never seen a hitter called for unintentionally hitting the middle.(in or out of the box) I would say with some degree of certainty that more hitters are out of the box than within the box (lines) with no harm done nor intended. |
