May 29 TooOldToFight Men's 60 23 posts | Experienced an interesting scenario where I'm not certain of the right call. An outfielder charged a sinking line drive that went into his glove prior to hitting the ground, but his glove came off and it laid on the ground with the ball in it (The ball never touched the ground). He picked up his glove and pulled the ball out but the umpire said, "No catch" and called the batter safe. I thought it was a catch bcuz the ball never touched the ground, but I didn't debate it since I wasn't sure. Any umpires or rule aficionados out there who can tell me the definitive call? Thanks. |
May 29 B.J. 1108 posts | TOTF .. I would have a no catch once the glove landed on the ground .. when the fielders glove came off had he caught his glove in the air before it hit the ground and then secured the ball showing posession I would have a catch |
