Stoneman Reno Tournament Answer
Stoneman you mistakenly assumed I, Larry Campbell, this years Old A's 55 major plus manager was Gary Tryhorn, last years manager, when I approached you and your entire team in Reno this June. We were a 55 team playing exhibition in the 50 major plus division. My catcher tested your bat after you hit by balancing it. After he pointed this out to me I did not go to the umpire, I approached you and your team directly and told you all that I suspected that you and your pitcher had used that bat and that it was altered by removing the rod in the handle. Four or five of your teammates became irate and the rest simply listened. You showed me the bat and claimed it was balanced. The only problem was that you were balancing it at the point were the barrel ends and the taper to the handle starts. Then you handed me the bat and I showed you the proper location to balance the Miken Ultra two was actually two inches towards the handle from the location described above. When I balanced your bat in front of your entire team, the barrel end dropped immediately, indicating the bat was end loaded and not balanced. The most common method to achieve this is to remove the metal weighted rod in the handle. Fact. Your bat was illegal. Fact. I came to you as a coach and player and not to the umpire or any other tournament director. Fact. I simply asked that you not use the bat against us for the rest of the game. Fact. I told your team that I had no intention of doing anything more about the bat. Fact. After the game I came back to your team and try to have a reasonable discussion on the bat issue but was again met with profanity and immature behavior. Fact. In December of last year I presented a plan to the summit to have tournament bats provided at the field at the National level to eliminate this problem. They turned it down. Last two Facts. My name is Larry Campbell, Mgr. California Old A's 55 Major Plus World Champions and we beat you that game with legal bats......

LARRY: FIRST OFF:U r really in another world. I have not played in Reno 4 three yrs. If, u ever talked to me, it was in another town. When u come to Vegas, look me up. Test all of my MIKENS. 2nd: Who has made u're catcher the 'bat cop?' 3rd: I would like to c u're catchers 'license'; or certificate & from which testing & approved orgin.' on this subject......
The STAR's have some of the finest men , who act very professional when facing difficult situations. AS 4 MYSELF, I HARDLY EVER ACT PROPER. 4th: Who gave u the power to judge bats & state that a player is a CHEAT? 5th: U HAVE NO PROPER PROOF, that the handle weighted plug has been removed. I have over 10 bats, that r broken. When u come to town, I & seveal other SENIOR PLAYERS, will be glad to help u try & pull or extract the weighted rod out of the handles. FACT: U R way out of line. FACT: U R RUDE & INSULTING. But, I & other do understand u're concerns.. FACT: IF U EVER PULL THAT CRAP on me, may GOD have mercy on u're sole. FACT: What do u expect, from men, when u get in a man's face, & call that man a cheat? U have the NERVE to do this in front of ones friends, wifes, sons, etc
LARRY: U R A JERK. PERIOD. I PRACTICE, several times a wk. w/ some of the finest men on this planet. One of these men, has fought in 5 wars, policingactions, etc.
LAST POINT: I am glad that u won & beat me. Thank GOD that I was a no show. PLEASE, have the nerve to look me up & let's have a beer. ALSO, let's hit. I can get S.I., R.P., G.M., & several other power hitters to show u that u really r way off base & have put u're foot in u're mouth & shot it.
TO MIKE39: Thank u 4 trying to help many older senior players that got scr...... I know these players & these men r not cheats. THE STARS DO NOT NEED 'JUCIED' BATS. Gary & Larry, have insulted a large group of men. WHY? WHAT IS GOING ON IN SENIOR SOFTBALL?

I had heard that since the metal rod was added to the handle, you can easily tell if it has been removed by using a magnet. Alumnium and composite material are non-magnet, but the added rod is, so if the magnet "sticks" to the handle then the rod is in place, if the magnet falls off, then the rod is gone.

Mitch: All one has to do is pull the sticker off the handle & look. The men who have been called cheats, r men that have the talant, honor, etc. & would never lower theirselfs to the level of cheating. Two of these men, won 5 MAJOR PLUS WORLDS last yr. One played 9 yrs. on one of the all service team. The other is a gorllia of a man. Both men always, regardless, of what is going on, act like gentlemen. I do not state these men names, because they have been insulted. ( Many r laughing @ Larry & Gary for their remarks.) In the 50 MAJOR PLUS circle both players r ALL WORLD & would & can play 4 any 35, 40, 45, or 50 team. There is no team that would not want these two. PERIOD.
