Dec. 7 Woody22 2 posts | A batter hits a grounder. The fielder makes a bad throw to first and the runner (batter) unintentionally kicks the ball into right field before he gets to first base. What’s the call? |
Dec. 7 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | The instance of a batter runner being hit by a thrown ball is not interference (it's nothing – live ball, play on) unless the runner intentionally makes contact with the thrown ball or otherwise hinders or impedes a fielder's opportunity to field or throw the ball ... |
Dec. 7 Woody22 2 posts | Thx. However it was a little more complicated than that. The ball was thrown poorly up the first base line. The first baseman tried to field it which he only managed to get a glove on it. Both the fielder and runner were in very close proximity to the baseline. As the fielder tried to regain possession of the ball the runner then unintentionally kicked it into the outfield. Your answer may be the same but I’m curious. |
