| Aug. 26 ritter69 Men's 55 20 posts | How are the bats checked?? How do they mark them for the whole tourney?? Maybe one of the major plus/major teams from Kanas City can help?? |
| Aug. 27 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | It wasn't very scientific. As you checked in by you roster you handed the umpire you bats that you might use for the trounament. He would look it over, act like he was finding the balance point and then affix a small star on the bat. He would then cover the star wtih clear fingernail polish. I was told that they had ordered some other kind of sticker but the hadn't received them by the tournament date. I was told by some that they would check for rods in the handle with the aid of a magnet. |
| Aug. 27 audieh Men's 60 249 posts | Bruce, I talked to the official that checked my bat and he told me he had with held 2 bats for being end loaded. So that even though it wasn't scientific it is a beginning and I can assure you that bat experts like my brother can pick up a bat and tell you by feel if it has been altered with an end weight. The big advantage of the check was that I didn't feel like we played against any juiced bats at the SPA, nor in St Louis or Milwaukee for that matter. It would seem the stiff penalitires are having a postive affect. |

They were also balancing other makes of bats and I'm sure that they had no clue as to where the balance points should be. For instance, is the balance point on the NRG 600 Maxload the same as a Freak? I don't think so. But like you said, Audie, I think many did think twice before swinging an altered bat there. I won't go as far as to say we didn't play against any juiced bats there or Milwaukee or even Gadsden. I'm curious to see what everyone will be swinging in Burlington this weekend. |
| Aug. 28 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | RITTER 69: This past wkend, the WSL, was in town. ASA, had a few of their reps & a BAT TEST' MACHINE, that did test all of the Bats used in this WSL tourney. This machine, was 1 of 2 that ASA has. I was informed that this machine cost $ 4000. What a joke. I would beat that this machine weighed less than 25 lbs. I watched the ASA rep, test several bats. ASA's rep, informed me that she, could test 3 bats in 40 seconds. I watches the ASA rep, place a bat down, between 2 long(36" X 1/2" bars) & then push a button. This digital device had 4-6 small Red Buttons. (About the size of a small wallet.) If, a bat passed, that bat got a spec.' sticker, about the size of a quarter. This sticker, has a halogram inbed in the sticker. The ASA rep, also, informed me that, If, this sticker is removed, the halogram, was destroyed. Several bats, like the Virus & SENIOR COMBAT PASSED. Yes PASSED. The VIRUS was allowed to be used & the SENIOR COMBAT, was not. The VIRUS Bat, is ISA, NSA, & USSSA approved. Again..... WHY PLAY ASA??? The STONEMAN |
| Aug. 28 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Stoneman, if the Combat passed why wasn't it allowed? Since neither the Virus nor ithe Combat is an ASA approved bat, I wonder why the difference. |
| Aug. 28 Fred Scerra Men's 80 542 posts | I think the answer is that the Combat Senior isn't approved by anyone except SSUSA. I am not sure if it even has the 1.20 BPF on it. |
| Aug. 28 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | FRED: The reason maybe, that in order to get approved by ASA, a Bat Manuf' must sent their bat into one of ASA's approved test' lab. The main reason? ASA, wants $ 1.50 FOR EVERY BAT SOLD. Why, should Combat, pay $ 1.50 / Bat, in order to have Senior Combats allowed in ASA??? The STONEMAN...... |
| Aug. 29 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Just strikes me funny that neither the Senior Combat or the Virus is ASA approved , yet they allow one over the other, go figure. With ASA, approval is a control\money issue. Something like, sure, we'll approve it, send or show me the money. |
