Does anyone know the location (city/state) of the SPA 2008 World tournament?

I can only answer that I was told that the SPA "wouldn't be back" to KC and odds are good that they will be back to Dalton. I don't know if that means that all classes will be in Dalton or that major and major plus will be in another location.
Only Ridge can answer that.

I had a long conversation with one of the SPA umps at Starbucks during our rain-out day at Dalton. He said the tournament (and I'm assuming he probably meant AA & AAA) would be back in Dalton next year, then back in Plano the year after that. Nothing was said about Major and Major+.

I don't know how official that was.

I thought Dalton did a good job with the tournament. The businesses certainly seemed to appreciate us being there. If it hadn't been for a large crowd of senior players, the theater would have been empty on Friday night.

Given the times I had to travel, I found Birmingham to be less expensive than Atlanta. It's about 2.5 hours vs 1.5 from Atlanta (assuming you don't have a traffic SNAFU). My experience has been that the Atlanta airport and Atlanta traffic are to be avoided when possible.

Nashville might be another choice -- also about 2.5 hours.

I've left messages/emailed SPA, but have yet to receive a response on the location.

The wife played in the USSSA 40+ World in Gallatin Tn this month. Quite the nice facility. Rumor has it that SPA may take over this established time slot and do Womens Nationals there in 2008.

Tourney results here

Too bad SPA can not get the details online that other sites do.

Oreo, the trip theu Atlanta was not to bad, traffic was only stopped oin the interstate for 10 to 15 minutes and right tjru downtown Atlanta was very good.

I liked the fields in Dalton and the area seemed nice. Oue team was not around long enough to really see much. Better luck next time for us. TT was nice to finally chat with you.

Hope to see you all down in Tamps for the SPA Winters.
We won it last year and hope to see more teams this year.

Ridge mentioned Dalton next year in the manager's meeting for the 55s, etc. I liked the facility in Dalton and the area. I do think that the infields need to be drug every few games, and it was sad that only one diamond was going on each side of the complex on Saturday afternoon. I know that it is good for them to get that few extra dollars a motel room, but this really needs to be a three day tournament if the divisions are broken up this way. Of course I think that I would like to be anywhere in this world but Plano.

As far as the women, Ridge introduced a lady that is their new women's director. She currently runs a tournament with about 50 teams (not sure where or what sanction) that they are wanting to put SPA behind. There was apparently not enough teams to have a women's SPA national this year.

We really like Dalton, motel rates were reasonable, gas was cheaper, traffic was not to bad on Fri am & 10 fields at same location.I can not see the major & major + being in Dalton the infields are cut to short even for aaa & aa teams using the U2's.
Nancy has Tim came up with a date for the Brickyard Classic for 2008?

My problem was not with dalton or driving in atlanta,
airport delays out of atlanta was my biggest problem.
Would rather play in a location we could fly directly into
or drive To in less than 6 hours. We loved plano!

Received a call from the SPA staff yesterday. They are still evaluating locations and hope to announce their decision at the end of October.

John, you know Tim; he says the first weekend in May. I will let you know if by some miracle that changes. He is leasing the part of the park that was sold two years ago for at least another year. So he will have those six diamonds, and he bought (rescued) another ball park in the city that is about sixty years old and is working to get that in shape for play also. It is a two diamond park where most of the senior teams in Indianapolis started. It is also in the final scene of Eight Men Out where Shoeless Joe Jackson is playing in the scrub league.

I really enjoyed my time in Dalton. Just about anything you wanted was there within a short drive.

My only problem was with the Chattanooga Tn airport. Nobody gets up early in morning for us early travelers. Car Rentals weren't open and there were no taxi's at the airport at 7 AM on Sunday.

Now that I know that I can plan accordingly if we go back there again. I for one would love to go back there next year. Great facility.
