We got all the way back to the semifinals
from the losers bracket only to get beat by
Woody's GSF bunch.
Conway, Barry, Randy and Tom's big shot
to tie the game with the pressure on
in the bottom of the last inning
all paving the way to a well earned victory.

We played a great game against Gary Deaton
and the Hollis bunch, Bruce, Jimmy, Terrell,
and Mike Walker who many say could be the best
all around player in Senior Ball and he's certainly
a legitimate contender with a cannon for an arm
and just brightest, most confident, positive on-field
demeanor in the game.

For 2 weekends in a row my teams gave DON CLATTERBAUGH'S teams their only losses
en route to becoming champs.
That's my favorite highlight for both LVSSA
weekends.
While pitching against CLATTER on Friday
I got caught day dreaming, became a spectator
instead a defender and reacted too slowly
to a ball he was trying to drive to my left but because
the wind blew the pitch more outside than either of us intended it came more up the middle than either of us intended.
It fractured a bone in my arrm on contact.
Now, word went around immediately
that Clatter nearlly killed me
and I played it for all the attention I could get
letting Clatter look meaner than
"the Big Bad Wolf"
but it was my fault for not being ready to play defense
after releasing the ball cause if I'd been ready
I'd have snatched that ball and Clatter would have walked back to the bench and had a seat.
All this for 2 reasons.
Mike Waker may well be the best all around player in
Senior Ball but
Don Clatterbaugh is still the best all around senior hitter
in the nation, a true sportsman and gentleman
of the game, a wondrerful friend of mine
whom I can't wait to see again
either on or off the field.

When any pitcher steps on the field
he must be ready to play defense.
That's his job to protect himself,
the batter and the competitiveness of the game.

Joe;
Sorry to hear about your arm... I figured it was broken. This happened to my teammate 6 years ago and his arm looked pretty much like yours.
I agree with almost everything that you stated except that CT was 0-3 in their seeding games. They didn't turn it on until the DE, where they went undefeated... our congrats to them.
I did enjoy watching Hollis play... they have a lot of power and really seem to enjoy the game. We have yet to play them (in KC or LV) but we expect to see them in AZ.
The big surprise to me was/is Ruth Realty. We hadn't seen them in this division in many years but they have a tough team, too.
We knew what to expect of everyone else including Kelly's as we had seen their players many times over the years.
We'd like to thank the LVSSA members for their efforts at keeping the fields maintained and making certain that everything ran smoothly.

Congrats to Sportsplex, GSF, Kelly's, Ruth, MTC, Grimes, & Nighthawks on your performances and thanks for making this a great Major+ bracket!!!!

Thank you Joe for all the kind words you used towards me and my teammates with Hollis. While I don't believe mine are deserved I do appreciate your saying so. That means a lot when someone who is as respected in the game as you passes them along. You are a great competitor and one of the best gentlemen in this sport. I hated to see you out of action and by your even playing after getting hit by that shot shows just how tough a guy you really are. I would never want to mess with you buddy!!!

It was a great tournament for seeing the best teams go at it. I really enjoyed the weekend and am looking forward to seeing all of you again in Phoniex.

Joe I sure hope you find out that it ain't broke and that you will be able to play again by then. I enjoy just being on the same field with you and the Kelly boys!!!

See you in Phoniex

Congrats to all the 55 Major + teams on what sounds like a great tournament! I guess Clatta paid John Davide back for helping win the 60 Major + last weekend with Spicer with a win with the Connecticut bunch this weekend! Two of my favorite guys - and they don't hit too bad either!

Also, good to read about the tournament itself and not the schedule, lack of communication, etc. we endured last weekend. I guess the LVSSA guys did get it together after practicing with the 50s and 60s.

Joe, I am sorry to hear about your arm; hopefully, it is not broken and we will see you on the field in Phoenix. We will play the Old A's on Friday evening at Cessar Chavez. Looking forward to seeing all my Old A's friends there. I expect this to be a great tournament like Vegas was!

Congratulations to Sportsplex for knowing when they needed to produce!
It was great seeing everyone again. Someone from Sportsplex said it correctly when they said it was great to just swing away and not try to hit holes and gaps. The balls, bats and weather were such that it just made for a great time for all.
I hope your arm heals quickly Joe! It was nice talking with Stone DAWG, Rick Perez, Taits and others. Woody, sorry I didn't take time to chat with you. I'll make a point of it next time.
Maybe I'll see some of you in Ft. Meyers. I won't be in Phoenix because my son is gettin married that weekend. Best of luck to all in Phoenix (except when playing Hollis).

Bruce, Look me up in Fort Myers. I've seen you several times with the "young" guys but never had the chance to formally meet you.

I am #10 with Boaz/ASI; we play 60 Major Plus. Hopefully, we will be playing at the same complex as you youngsters! Larry Lopez
