| July 2 DCPete 409 posts | Spoke with several players who played in this tourney 2 weeks ago. This was an ASA Senior tourney in which they used a new .50cor/low compression (265?) ball made by the Trump company. They all said the ball was a mushy piece of crap that even Clatterbaugh couldn't hit out on a 300' fence. One player told me that this ball isn't designed to be hit effectively with the current 98mph composite bats and that this could be another way for ASA to get everybody to stop using the composites without ASA having to ban them. Is this paranoid conspiracy theory or just ASA continuing to show their complete disregard for Senior Softball? |
| July 2 turn2 489 posts | the ball was terrible but you had to go for the hits instead of the home run. we as a team turn two/ elite did not hit any home runs. if we could have purchased the balls from them we might have hit a few. with this ball it just made your team have to get hits and play defense to win. later donnie turn two / elite 60 major plus |
| July 3 2awesom Men's 50 308 posts | Hi! My 50+ Major Team was at Salem The Balls were yellow and they said Lexum -Baden on them. So I question if these were Trump Balls? Does anyone know for sure? Our team is usually good for at least 6-10 Homeruns in any given Tournament, we had 1 in 5 games at Salem. I think these balls and ASA Bat restrictions kept the Homerun's to a minimum. There's a good chance that ASA & ASA affiliates have seen the last of our Senior Team. On a positive note though, that Betatourt Complex was one of the nicest I've ever seen! | July 3 JimM#9 5 posts | We also used only the Lexum-Baden balls, felt like melons coming off the bats and basically took the hard hits and long ball out of the equation. If you like just basehitting then stick with it. You will see the same ball at the ISSA in Manassas in August. I would love to see a better ball to make it more interesting. Jim#9 High St Bucs 55"s |
| July 3 Fred Scerra Men's 80 542 posts | We also use the Baden balls in the 70 Div. Actually it was an ISF tourney. We didn't know till we got there that they were using ASA rules. Most of us brought our UTrip bats which were on the ISF approved list only to find out when we got there we couldn't use them. The facilities at Moyer field were great. Too bad it was spoiled by the balls we were using. |
