Brett, Dirty;
As for cost, if you do a search you will find I believe one and maybe two post sometime back where these were explained in a reasonable manner. But also, don't forget they are in it to make $$.
Some tournaments seem to be more costly than others qualifiers, worlds, etc etc, as well as some assn's are more costluy than others for what I see as equal tournaments. Unless the parks rental fees, umps pay scale is different or the awards a lot better\worse, I'd think they ( entry fees) would be closer than they are. Perhaps having won the right to buy vs the you actually get a ring, is part of it as well.
Seperate thread so as to not invade other subject.

Taits are we talking about entry fees because if so they are no more out of line than what the kids are playing for the pleasure of a 2NQ. A UTRIP kids NIT in Vegas is $360. Our recent trip to Escondido for a senior event was $300. IF we our talking cost to travel that is a whole other animal and I don't see how that is SSUSA or SPA controlled.

I have ran tournaments before, so I do understand many of the costs involved. One can run a 12-team tournament and easily make $500 - $600 off of a $200 per team entry fee (provided teams provide their own balls). I've done it and at the same time paid for insurance, field and light uasge, umpires, awards (1-3), gratuity, etc. By the way, the awards were significatnly better than what is usually given out in most sanctioned senior tournaments. I would truely like to understand where all the $335 - $695 per team per tournament is going.

Brett;
My last park cost alone was 1525. A bld in Fresno w\ only 3 fields for sat\sun. Give or take about 25 bucks.
All things aren''t = across the board either. Cities are not charging the same everywhere at all times. Might be a real problen with just that alone or someone is making more\less on these....?
But the highest you mention is still about 300 less than some I know that are or were put on this and last year.

I fully realize expenses are different throughout the country. My figures were based primarily on the midwest, where the average 'qulaifier' tournament entry fee is $350.

Here are some you may not thought of, but they (SSUSA) et al, MAY have to include:
1. Field Rental(s) and Field Preparation labor
2. Tourney Staff Travel (air fares/hotels/rental cars/ per diem fees)
3. Director Fees
4. Umpire and UIC Fees
5. Softballs (2+/- balls per game)
6. Postage & Shipping tournament supplies
7. Awards (vary by event)
8. Gifts to sponsoring cities and CVB's (usually a championship trophy with special plaque)
9. Printing and Reproduction - Tourney Programs,Schedules, Seeding Control sheets, Director Binders
10. Room rentals for Manager Meetings and Registrations
11. Unallocated costs - Office staff for Pre-Tournament Administration

While these are going to add up, It may bring some into light a few not thought of.
I had like costs as you do, Maybe we should combine forces and go national...lol
I see your side of it all too well.

I understand what you are saying, but I do not agree that it is necessary to incur travel expenses for the sanctioning organizations staff members (or umpires) unless it is a regional, national, or world tournament. To me these are unecessary expenses for a 'qualifier' tournament. Having an appointed 'state' tournament director in attendance should more than suffice. Administrative costs of the sanctioning organization are a given.

SSUSA is national as well as state\regional and since the primary TD's are located in Sacramento, cost will no boubt be incurred for representartion, unless one of their regional directors are there to do the job, I do not think both are necessary.
I forgot #12. Insurance cost to cover the event and all.
Any way they aren't cheap from either side, and this is just the assn side... Oh well the players know theirs, or their sponsors do.
