Dec. 24 THE HI-JACKER 118 posts | MERCY RULE, IS THIS A REQUIREMENT? SENIORS: I got an E-mail from a player who wishes to remain unknown. The question put to me: 1) Should there be a Mercy Rule? 2) If, so, will a Mercy Rule speed up games? 3) If, teams are allowed 5 runs per inning, should the Mercy Rule be 12 or 15 runs; after 5 innings? Should the 6th inning start, when one team is down by: 1) 25 to 13 2) 20 to 8 3) 20 to 5, etc. After 4 innings, if, the score is 20 to 3? Should that game be over? T Hi-J |
Dec. 25 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | MERCY RULE, IS THIS A REQUIREMENT? if they allow a mercy rule and have inning run limits, than i think you need a catch up rule for the inning that you will be mercied in.anotherwards if they allow 5 runs an inning and you haven't reach the open inning, but are in the mercy situation they need to be able you to catch up to get past the mercy run rule, in the inning that it will occur for your at bat.say your down by by 18 (with mercy at 12)in the 5th and thats when the mercy takes effect, should be able to score enough runs with your 3 outs to pass it,otherwise being allowed to score only 5 runs does you no good, right. we used to use this rule in socal(don't know if they still do) for each inning.basic run per inning was 5 or 7 but if we were down by more we could play catch up and go up by 1 run max for the inning,i would love to see this rule in all play.open inning was still open tho. |
