Jan. 13 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | I have to chime in, and maybe it is just because we have umpires that will interpret the 'intentional' rules as any time you go up the middle, but I think a little further clarification is needed. I know you put in incidents that happened in the game that might be a precursor could be the basis for that call, but I am betting that some umpires will not read it and realize the intent of the rule. I hope I am wrong about this. |
Jan. 13 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | I think the rules are very clear to those that have read them. In my last tournament, there were 2 umpires that were not aware of the new rules, and even a few teams. After talking with some of the umpires and players, everyone is becoming more aware of the rule changes. Not everyone spends time on this message board. I did not see but did hear, that the new rules were in the handouts to the managers when they signed in?? The umpires that were aware of the rules, called the games correctly. I was hit once, and no dead ball out was called, and that was a correct call. All team managers need to read the new rules that are being handed out at the tournament and let their players know, and the umpires should be informed by SSUSA before they take the fields, or whoever informs them about rule changes. Jan. 14 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Andy, I agree it seems to be written as well as possible. We have just had some terrible umpires-you know the ones that 'rule the game with an iron hand'. We even had one that almost threw me out for joking that a ball down the line was 'only foul by a couple feet!' We were laughing and everybody on the field knew I was kidding except the ump. Pretty bad when you can't have a smile or two on the field. I hope this rule works. There is no place for anyone that intentionally tries to take out a pitcher. |
