| Feb. 24 b blake 8 posts | if you played 50major last year , and our team broke up , can you drop and play 50aaa & 55aaa this year, i thought you could drop one skill level (age 56) i dont know if it matters |

| Feb. 25 Corky Men's 55 451 posts | This is an issue that has hit home with our team as well, with a slight twist. We were bumped to major........took our lumps (3tourneys with 6teams)and applied to rerate to AAA. It was granted by USSA. Now half the guys are moving to 55 and we can play AAA......BUT.....the guys that remain in the 50's cannot get SPA to recognize the re-rate. The info they want is in the SSUSA office and the new coach of the 50's does not have the data. (neither does the old coach that moved to 55). Is there not a summit for ratings? Can't they share that information? Or at least PICK UP THE PHONE?...Anyone got a suggestion? |

| Feb. 26 Corky Men's 55 451 posts | Lemons: It's sad but the new 50's coach has decided to advise his new players (just turning 50) not to buy SPA cards and that they will not play SPA if they can't get them to re-rate them to the SSUSA rated level. Too bad you have to hold them hostage just to get the right thing done. |
| Feb. 26 stever Men's 70 99 posts | It's obvious this coach has no idea how SPA (or SSUSA for that matter) ratings are done. All teams start the season with the same rating as they finished. As long as he has at least 6 players from last years roster he is going to have a hard time getting re-rated. If he has less than 6 players from last years roster he is essentially a new team. All new teams start the SPA season rated AAA. Everyone gets lumped together in pool play and plays AAA rules. They are then broken out into brackets for the round robin based on how they played in pool play. In May, SPA makes their first rating change of the year based upon how teams have played to date. You can then appeal your rating, provided you have played in three qualifiers. There are specific things required to request re-rating and compiling that data is strictly up to the team requesting such a re-rating. Final ratings are in early July. With regard to the 55 team, changing age levels does not automatically change your rating. The advice he has given his players sounds like whining. He should at least call SPA and have them explain why they are rated as they are if he has less than 6 roster players from last year. Believe me, his advice is childish and will NOT hold SPA hostage. By the way, there has been no summit for ratings for the past couple of years. Each of the two organizations does their own ratings and there are some differences. Of course (theoretically) this means you could have different rosters for each of the organizations. Both organizations look at the individual players on your roster as well as your record when rating. If you have at least 6 players that have been playing on a Major roster, you will be Major. |

ALL DATA WAS COLLECTED TO SUBSTANTIATE THE RE-RATE...As far as knowing how SPA and SSUSA rate...the chatter on this board should give you a "clue" that both associations rating systems are FLAWED at best. "Childish" I think not. A local team was re-rated just prior to the Northern Nationals on the basis "That they would not attend at there current rating" Huh! they were re-rated over the phone, on the spot, just to get them to enter. All those things you (out of ignorance of the situation)suggest have been done. The 55's did what most do to get rated properly......ENTER UNDER A NEW NAME...BTW...Are you a SPA staffer? SSUSA did the right thing....SPA refuses to accept SSUSA rating....solution......play SSUSA. And you are quite Naive if you think the loss of 6 to 8 new member fees and the money involved in the tourneys they will boycott is not an incentive.. |
| Feb. 27 titanhd Men's 60 640 posts | There is a real tragedy in Corky's case.SPA can't be looking at his team's 2009 results and rating them Major.In 2009,I don't think that the team won a single GAME playing Major and once USUSA allowed them to play AAA in Lansing-they didn't win there either. The data is there to look at to formulate a proper rating.Major certainly is not it.(IMO) Go figure.... |
| Feb. 27 lemons Men's 65 323 posts | Corky et al., SPA has rerated teams just to get them to enter tournaments in the past. For example, Dalton in 2009. I don't think "holding them hostage" is the case, perhaps nepotism. |
