This last weekend Ridge Hooks allowed a resident of South Fla to play on a Georgia team. Ridge said because of the snow bird rule this player could live in Fla but play on a team from a state where he owned property. I was unable to find this rule in the SPA rule book or on their website.
Ridge should review this incident and strip the SPA National Championship from "Georgia" Crush.

I checked the SSUSA rule book but couldn't find a snow bird rule in it. Do any other associations have this rule. If so, exactly what does it say?

It is the tournament directors safety valve to avoid an ugly incident. If there really is a snowbird rule then a list of all snowbirds should be posted on said tournament directors web site in advance in case any one wants to look into the validity of it before the event, not afterwards.
IMO
Thanks

I have questioned the ISA about the rules of residency; the eeeeeeeback was where a player lives most of the year; what if that was a Federal Prison; this interpretation is very vague. Your DL should determine your state of residence. My family has property in NY, Ca, Montana, Ga, Fla; can I go play with you Kelly under this ruling???

Can you even imagine the team i could put together based on that interpatation of the rule.
I could hire every big name in senior softball to work for me 3 months out of the year and ruin everybodys chance at even having a chance to win.
Bottom line is that even though i know i could, i wont because i dont believe it is in the best interests of the game.
Regardless of what some people think, i want to play against real competition. I have said it over and over again becuase i belive it. There is more pride involved when you beat the best teams around.
My biggest complaint with the game , senior and adult is the cheating that has come to past because of the composite bats.
I only want and expect the same rules to apply to all and keep an eye on your team mate. if you suspect him of using a cheater bat, try to get him to stop and if he wont report it to your manager.
We are all at least over 50 years of age and it is not ratting or finking on someone anymore it is doing the responsibile thing.
I feel for you Taterman as i know how it feels to be wronged in this game, very frustraing and hangs around for awhile.
I don't think your problem is with the Crush though as i believe it was already a done deal with Ridge before they ever got there. Lets say a little birdie told me in advance he was allowing the pan handle guys in but not the rest of fl.
Good luck with Ridge as he will probably deny that but it came right from the mouth of the team your protesting and it was said before they ever got there.
There i am a rat again but i hope it helps you sort through this a little better.
Thanks

hey mike. this is hank is vegas. two things this past weekend. played a team on friday lost by one. played same team on sun. and they had added at least three players. we lost 41-26. another team protested that particular team and ridge turned down the protest. said they didnt have t o play on friday. we were under the impression if you dont play in the round robin games then you cant play in the double. next situation played a team from fla and ala. ala coach told us they had a hurricane exemption to put this team together. who is kidding who. also the snowbird rule is a true joke. our team knows of three players at least that are not snow birds yet they claim that exemption. our team goes by the book and we lose one year playing in our own age group as we are forced to play down in another age group. when you see all thats going on around us it is truly frustrating. im going to stop here see ya soon mike

Hi Hank good to hear from you.
Same thing. Ridge allows some things in advance and hopes not to have to explain them and i guess bottom line is that we are at there mercy when we go to there events.
I know that USSSA and ASA run everything right by the book.
Look at the weak bat altering stance that ridge has. Not sending a strong message at all. They are no more then just simple tournament directors. no more no less and it is good to know who is upfront and will give you a fair shake and who will not.
Look at RB Thomas amd the sad state of his event. This might hurt a few teams but i cant see spending any money to go play 1 team and think i really won something there.

Manasass 50 major plus = 2 teams

Manasass 55 major plus = 2 teams

Manasass 60 major plus = 2 teams

When i was 48 looking in at the senior worlds through the Dan Smith team i heard of Manasass and it was impressive what was being said.
Now, well it just shows what not doing the right things for the players will get you in the long run.
At least you got to play and see some old friends.
Are you guys going to be in Hutchinson or Des Moines.
Take Care
