June 21 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Balls We'd played a tournament this weekend where the balls were ADSTARR Spirit Balls ASA approved on an open field. Everything about the tournament was terrific given open fields but the poor performance of the balls. They were sub par especially for an open field and affected the caliber of play importantly as it got hotter. Baden Fire balls or Trump balls at 44x375 are the best caliber balls we've found usable that can deliver the satisfaction necessary to continue to invest in senior ball. The great many players agree with me I've found and it's it's become terrific advice to find out from any TD before you pay the money what balls will be used and that way they'll "get the message", right away. |
June 21 Brett Men's 55 239 posts | r From a post written by OLDBUCK23 on 05/07/2007: Hombre, the best overall balls are any of the Trump Balls that have Micro Cell Technology (MCT). They especially perform heads and tails above any other 44/375 or 44/400 balls when it is hot (above 85 degrees). They are engineered to lose no compression in the very hot weather, which is what causes most balls to feel like a sock. I have read that for every degree above/under 72 degrees, most softballs lose/ gain 5 lbs of compression. The TRUMP balls also perform great in cooler temperatures. No ball is better, in my opinion. Kevin Schullstrom at Anaconda Sports / Trump Softball can give you the real skinny on their balls versus other balls at 1-800-327-0074 ext 210. The prices are the best, also. The worst of the worst that I have used so far is the A.D. Starr 44/375 Spirit ball. a couple of years ago ,our organization mistakenly used them in a pretty large tournament in 90 degree weather. The TD caught heck from EVERY team about those balls. |
June 21 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r Got to agree, Brett. The Trump MCT ball, which is the ball they use in LVSSA, is the best/hottest 44 x 375 ball I've hit, to date, especially in hot weather, though ironically, it's soft to the touch. I found that as a pitcher the softer feel makes it easier and better to grip and throw well. |
June 21 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | r I've pitched and hit the Spirit ball. I like the feel of it as a pitcher, and it holds up well for the entire game. Seems to hit about the same as the Trump in morning games and about 10 feet shorter than the Baden, but I have little experience with it in hot weather. But what was hot in Redwood City last weekend? (That was where einstein said his team was playing.) Weather.com shows a high of 64 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday. Wouldn't call that hot. |
June 21 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r Isn't it just like a fluffy intellectual piece of nothing to quote the stats about the weather. Ever heard of wind-chill factor for the effective/meaningful temperature. Or how about the temp experienced in direct sunlight on a composite field? It was meaningfully very hot on the field Sunday afternoon between 12 and 4 for a variety of reasons and it adversely affected the performance of an already crappy Sprite ball but then again you'd have to know what you were talking about to have anything important to say. You want to criticize and start an argument but you don't want to be accountable. We all know what that means about who you are and aren't in ways that can't be regulated or repressed. |
