Depending on what tournament you go to, or what team you are playing against, or what director is in charge of your tournament, you can have some differing opinions about the game's rules.

I have on more than one occasion, been accused of making a mockery of the sport of senior softball. My crime is wearing my hat backwards. I cannot play the game with my hat worn correctly(even when I was young), and only wear it to keep the sun off my head. I only wear it on the field, and never when I bat. It should be noted that according to the rules, I am wrong to do so. The way it was explained to me is that if pictures and/or film are being taken for the public to see, then the rules need to be adhered to, otherwise, I am making a mockery of the game. I did ask how the guys with the straw farmers hat, visors with fake hair, and Hawaiin flowered shorts is correct attire, but that went over someone's head. Needless to say, I just do not wear a hat, till the game is over. I guess that I will just get sun stroke for the camera.

It appears that the main purpose is for the public advertising of our game called senior softball. I can understand this to a point. I find this very amusing, when we are concerned about the public viewing of our game, especially, if we are talking about film at 11 on channel 7. Addressing just the film part, how does it look to someone on film, showing the public a play at the plate with the ball coming in and the runner is no where to be found, because he trying to find the other home plate to tag or a line to cross? If I were the public, I might be a bit confused here, when the umpire says "safe" or "out". The newscaster does his job and explains the ruling and purpose, which we seniors all know. Basically, there is no sliding at home and to protect the catcher from getting hurt or even the runner, depending on how big the catcher might be. OK, with that explained, the next shot displayed, is a player taking out the second baseman. I guess the logic here is, you can kill the second baseman, and third baseman too, or the pitcher covering either bag, as long as you take care of the catcher. I think the public might understand this one, or not.

How do you explain seniors in the Major Plus division hitting so many home runs using a bat called the Ultra II for example. Young guys in leagues are not allowed to use them, because they are afraid of hurting someone. I assume the logic here is, that it is OK to kill a senior, but not a young man. Oh no, there seems to be a football player on the mound. Nope, it is just the pitcher safety gear. You just thought you saw a football player.

I guess I could go on and on, but I think I made my point, which was, I just cannot remember now. It is kind of like silly laws that politicians pass that make no sense, but we have to adhere to them, because they said so and snuck it through to get their way on another issue? At least this is a different topic guys.

Yes, I am guilty, so I will just play by the rules and not wear a hat. Have a safe and happy 4TH everyone!!

BTW, does anyone want to buy some of the hats in the trunk of my car?
