Does anyone have the scoop on changes in the SPA. The association met in Atlanta on 24 Jan. 04. Rumors so;
1. No Freaks
2. 44/375 balls after current stock is depleted.
3. Residency rule will be enforced.
By the way, nuthin stated in their website.

Received a letter asking for input or attendence. Stated date was 24 Jan in Atlanta. One of our local guys made the meeting. He is now working to set up a meeting to discuss isues. Got this info at practice this afternoon. Will post as soon as I find out anything. In the meantime, you would think that the association would post info on their website.

My guess it that SPA intentially didn't notify some of us because we are still chapped that we didn't receive our awards from Montgomery last year!
I am confused, you say that SPA will enforce residency requirements in 2004. I thought they have always enforced the residency requirements.

Greetings Bruce,
SPA rule " Teams may be composed of players from states or neighboring states, with the exception of Florida and California (which can't draw from neighboring states)". Last season the major team that I was co-manager of had players from Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Bruce, without a full expaination from our rep who attended the meeting I can only guess.
Additionally, a major 55 team in the area is also concerned.

Len, In the past there has been an exception in the residency requirement for the panhandle of Florida. SSWC, SPA, NSA and ISSA had agreed to this exception. I hope that they will leave this exception alone and enforce the rule for south Florida. I think that major + teams should be able to pull players from anywhere, or maybe, create a new class that could pull from all states. They could call this class super major.

Bruce-
There used to be a Super Major class and teams could pull players from all over the US. Some sponsors did not like that flexibility, so the class was killed. Apparently, among other things, there was a lot of concern about Dan Smith's team with players from both coasts, Texas, Florida, etc. And, when they won four Senior Worlds in 1999, the class was curtailed and the regional rules came into existence for Majors.

Our league director talked to Ridge last week. We will be using same ball in our league of 47core and 525 compression. SPA will use the yellow ball in tournaments. However, we voted to use white balls in our league as we play under the lights.
