| March 14 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | has anyone notice that there are rec tourney's,where you don't have to have a set roster,but are set up just to play.not a qualifier or anything,sounds great right,till you look at the price being charged for them,dang....... almost as much as a qualifier... |

| March 14 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Insurance is reasonable if you shop for it. also depends in what your covering. IE: Team or per player, the fields, the assn officers, city, etc. But 5 mil in coverage is about 12 a team or 50 cents a player. Another would also be where T is played or team is from. It can add up depending an what you want covered, but again, overall its very reasonable. i can remember coverage used to be 1m, then 2, 3, now its 5 million... So that tells you another story. |

| March 14 Ho 301 posts | I thought you meant independent tournaments..last year our insurance expense for 52 teams was $2,500.00 and we covered injury and liability..it was a little over $1.00 per player. Maybe they have a big cost for fields and groundskeepers. We pay about $4,500 plus grounds crew OT...so they may have some big expenses there. |
| March 15 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | Ho,no prol,it was an email sent out by SSUSA pushing on how they now have these rec tourney's. hell we pay $350 on up for qualifer's,why do we need to pay that for a tourney that doesn't mean a thing,but practice for teams. i play with the kids here and we don't have to pay that much for our state tourney's. |
| March 15 bernie Men's 55 77 posts | because there are so many qualifiers already, rec tournaments serve to play the game without stretching the SSUSA staff to cover them. They also work to get teams not already involved the chance to play locally and find out what the game is all about. As for fees, How about insurance as just one part if it...Then there is field cost, balls, umpires, sanction fees for those not registered and probably finding a place to have the pre tournament meetings...Do you also think that people shoild hold these tournaments just to break even? It is hard to imagine the scenario that each event brings to the table just to get it off the ground...We should support these tournaments because they support our game... |
| March 15 J R 251 posts | Insurance is 25.00 per team,and you have to send in list of players on each team. So they know who to cover.This thru SSUSA insurance. Umpires must be SSUSA certified to be covered.We found something called sports insurance to cover a tournament. It was not any cheaper.Our regular league insurance did not cover recreational tornaments |
| March 15 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | bernie your saying a rec tourney should be as much as a qualifier.these i have seen are run by SSUSA people who are throwing the qualifier's.these tourney's don't support our game,just their pockets. like i said,i can play at the same fields here with the kids for a lot less then what these REC tourney's are charging.these are practice tourney's as far as i can see......there is nothing attached to them,except to play... |
| March 15 bernie Men's 55 77 posts | In texas, there must be alot of tournaments. In the Northeast, season is mush shorter. Begins May 1. Tournaments up here are $275.00 to $300.00 for double elimination. We offer teams a five game guarantee. Each game requires an umpire or two, balls, scorecards, labor to groom and line the fields. SSWC only makes up in registering teams to compete so covered by insurance...I wish I lived in Texas so I could get out of the cages and play but you play the cards you're dealt when you live in a cold climate. |
| March 15 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | not all that good here for seniors bernie,not as many tourney's as you might expect.and since i'm getting older(61) the kids don't pick me up as much.their tourney's run $150-$200 for a 1-dayer and usually 3game guarantees.i do get in some outlaw tourneys near me,no sanctions,but we do control equipment. |
