SSUSA TOURNAMENT AIKEN SC SUMMARY
TERRY, FRAN,DAVE AND STAFF
I have played Senior ball for 10 year, Run tournamets for last 4 years for SPA, I am so sad to say this was the worst run tournament I have ever played in. Great fellowship with other players, great place to play hitting cages great placed to hit before the game, but thats where it ended, umpires that didn't know the rule of senior ball or the game itself at times. The director or UIC didn't know the rules when called to the field. Dragging out the tournamet for 3 days with a 3 team bracket starting on Friday morning when most 50's still work. sitting around waiting with open fields and teams ready to play.
this is just a few things IMO needs to be looked at to help senior ball to grow and not make teams avoid tournaments

I agree with Don. I really felt sorry for our umpire. He was totally clueless, not knowing the difference in an illegal pitch and a no pitch, thinking if a fly ball passed first or third in fair territory the ball was fair, even if it hit foul. Didn't know the difference in a 6' arc and 20'. We only saw about 3 pitches called illegal.
One team, while batting all 11 players, had one get hurt. His next at bat we figured it would be an out. Wrong! Turns out that he was never put on the umpire's lineup card so nothing could be done about that.
Great fields though.

You are right about the Umps Don. Our first game the ump came out on the field and the firdt question he asked was " What is that Plate For?" Refering to the extra home plate. Need I say more.

Add to this we played 4 games total on Friday and Saturday. Two Friday back to back and two Saturday back to back and then were scheduled to play 4 games in 6 hours on Sunday.
It was Father's day also and the fields were empty early Friday and Saturday so why couldn't we have played more then.
An 11 team tourney where all 11 came back Sunday. May have had to this year but this is not how to build attendance at tournaments

Hitman, I sent a request to SSUSA one week before the tournament asking if we could finish on Saturday. I feel this could be done because of the low turnout of teams. We would not have to have stayed an extra night and could have been home for Fathers Day. I never received a reply to my E-Mail. Change or no change they could have responded. Just my opinion.
