Aug. 1 the wood Men's 65 1123 posts | 2011 HOF inductees The 2011 SSHOF inductees were announced several weeks ago and I'm surprised that no one has recognized any of them (on this board). Congratulations to Roland Bleitz, Ron Danoski, Bruce Fairchild, Ellwin Jobe and Gary Richter. I have played with Roland and Ron and can personally vouch for their many accomplishments. I have played against Bruce, Ellwin and Gary... they have very tough outs for us but are all great guys. All of them are extremely deserving... Bob Woodroof |

Aug. 1 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r I was asleep, too it would seem. I didn't know Elwin and Gary Richter were also named. Elwin is a terrific man and better player I've had the oppty to play both with and against. Elwin, like Bruce Fairchild, embody the notion that one can be a great gentleman and sportsman on one had and a great competitor/player on the other. Gary Richter could be the best/finest competitor I've ever faced or seen on a field. Whatever it took to win or help his team win is what Gary would do over and over and over again. From pitching, to opposite field hitting to the long ball, he would do it if/as the team needed it as I saw him win the championship for his guys one year with a walk off HR. Small only in size but never in strenght or in stature. The toughest, in the best sense of manly competition, to play this game, I have ever seen. Way to go, Gary. Way to go. |
Aug. 2 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | r Bob, It's good to see you on the board again! It's been quite a while since I've noticed your moniker! Yes, as Bruce stated, there was a thread (or two) congratulating the new HOF inductees. One name I've not seen mentioned in any of these threads is Bob Cummings. Bob was our shortstop with Dan Smith in the late 90s. I play against Bob now but he is still a great player and probably the best shortstop in any age group in which he plays. When any of my teams plays against Bob's team, I always tell our guys NOT to run on Bob's arm! Bob is also a first-class person as well. |
Aug. 2 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r Hey Larry. I didn't hear about Bob Cummings either with all the noise. Bob anchored at SS the defense for the Monster Old A's whom you know real well, never taking a back step and always wanting and delivering on D, at crunch time. A rifle for an arm and very challenging and smart defender. A Hall of Fame performer, for sure. Way to go, Bob. |
Aug. 2 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | r And great stories from him and Dave Sells from the Old A's about their times playing professional baseball. |
