Aug. 13 tg69 393 posts | Why the sudden change in the Southern brackets? Big baby start crying on your shoulder AGAIN? |
Aug. 13 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Sound as if some teams don't agree with SSUSA's method of teams playing down. I did find it strange that one division was labeled 55/60 Silver. How can they award a spot at the TOC if you qualified in a Silver bracket? |
Aug. 13 SSUSA Staff 3505 posts | The TOC berth is awarded in the native Age-Rating of the team that wins. If one of the singleton teams wins (either the 55-AA or the 60-AA) in the 55/60-Silver Division, the top finishing 60-AAA team also receives a TOC berth in 60-AAA. |
Aug. 13 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | What still puzzles me is that If 60 AAA teams can play in a bracket with a 55 AA team then why can't a 60 M and M+ team play with 55 AAA teams? Staff, in your scenario what if a AAA teams wins, does the AA team get a berth? |
Aug. 13 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | sorry Staff, I see that the AAA team also receives a birth. I don't see the point in having two divisions with 55 and 60 teams. Why not use your sliding scale and have all 11 teams in it? My team would spot runs to the 60 major, 60 AA, 55 AAA and 55 AA teams. What is the problem with this? |
Aug. 13 Anharbin29 3 posts | I agree with you Bruce on this sad situation. The people who are in this age group, if they truly played organized softball had to play every team no matter who they were. My team in Birmingham had to play against the likes of Howard's Furniture and Ken Sanders Ford. It didn't matter what classification Now as we get older certain teams are dictating the make up of a tournament. You would think after playing 40 years of softball you would have some improvement. NOT. But that is okay. Play in the lower divisions and you are not qualified for the Hall Of Fame. that is the pinnacle of softball. |
Aug. 13 jah#4 Men's 70 576 posts | it has been that way all year where some of the better AAA ALMOST major teams dodge playing older teams. Even in the SPA tournament where you play the lower division rules where AAA hrs are limited to 3 and outs where it would help the lower seat teams. ALL this does it puts the upper level teams with no where to play at all. I for one can't see how ths staff in SSUSA allows this in there National tournaments, JUST TELL THE UPPER LEVEL TEAMS THAT THE 55 TEAMS ARE AFRAID OF PLAYING YOUR TEAM. then we can save our money and play in Vegas. Most the major and m-plus teams live in several different state and drive a long way, |
Aug. 13 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Staff, using your rules and logic, if my team, a 60 major plus team beats the Edge, a 60 major team two out of three games, shouldn't the Edge get a birth to the TOC as well as my team? We are both "singleton teams" playing in a multiple class division. |
Aug. 13 jah#4 Men's 70 576 posts | SSUSA Staff by your early statement the SINGLETON TEAMS wins in the 55/60 birth are awarded by top finishing team. what about the singleton teams in the 60's playing 2 of 3 they are both singleton team with respect to their level of play. still runs or player is given to the lower team not one bit different by your own rule of playing down or up. My question why do these team tell staff we won't come and play by your rules. SSUSA AND SPA should tell these teams to stay home they are ruining softball, look at what happen in flat belly ballDON'T IT HAPPEN IN SENIOR BALL |
Aug. 13 tg69 393 posts | Now the way they have it set up,we are there for THREE DAYS just to play a TWO team tournament.SAD. But I do have an idea.Lets go to TWO divisions .The lower would be called the CRYBABY division and the upper would be SERIOUS division.Let the crybaby division load up with all the good players that they can get and win all that they can but only give them a trophy with CRYBABY CHAMPS on it.They can have no all tourney team and can not play in the upper divisions Worlds or TOC. |
Aug. 13 jah#4 Men's 70 576 posts | SSUSA STAFF LOOK AT THESE AAA ROSTER there are several former MAJOR PLUS player that I have played with these same players over the last several years that have filter down to AAA level. almost all of the has made the all=tournament teams @ the highest level now they won't play. Look at their rosters HoF players and all american then go the SPA and SSUSA sites see their names and their lever of play |
Aug. 13 tg69 393 posts | Bruce, you know as well as everyone who plays in the SOUTHEAST that there are 2 crybaby coaches who dictate whos in and whos not. Its a shame that they are able to do that BUT maybe someday they can win the CRYBABY WORLD.See you this weekend and well try to give your team good test. |
Aug. 13 Anharbin29 3 posts | A sad situation this is and no solution in sight. We played in this tournament last year as a major team against a AA team in the 60 division. We gave them 5 runs and an extra plsyer. We had to fight the whole game just to beat them by one run. These lower teams have been given an equalizer but they still will not play. What a joke. Keeping playing down and you will never get any better, but I guess you are satisfied with that situation. |
Aug. 13 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | This is hilarious. Really sad, unfortunate, and evidence of the lack of pride I have been talking about all along that so many have criticized me for saying, but funny nonetheless. |
Aug. 13 dMON 28 posts | Calm down boys...I'll be there to play ball. Guaranteed 5-6 games against 4 different opponents, have fun, play hard. Your just creating bulletin board fodder. You and I (and they) know these AAA teams can play with anybody in this tournament. |
Aug. 13 Anharbin29 3 posts | Oh by the way tg69, I think you have it all wrong. Crybaby is a harsh word, I like the more liberal word that begins with a P and not a cat. Lol |
Aug. 14 birdie Men's 70 802 posts | WOW I thought that the east had a lock on all of this.I could be wrong.Good luck to all and see you at the TOC Thanks Harry |

Aug. 15 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | I am disappointed that Staff has declined to answer my question about Major Plus and Major "singleton teams" being awarded births to the TOC. Maybe Staff didn't see my post above. Why is it different for "singleton" AA and AAA teams? |
Aug. 15 5ToolsinOhio Men's 50 160 posts | Bottom line, just like the young game....to many associations to many classes/divisions. Whats wrong with a upper and lower divisions? would guys quit playing? |
Aug. 16 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | 5Tools, I believe you would end up the about the same number of teams. In the qualifiers you might lose some lower rated teams but would gain some upper teams. |
Aug. 16 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | Same number of teams divided by fewer brackets equals more teams per bracket, and perhaps brackets worth the time and money to play in. Might even attract a few more teams who would see the improved value. Not to mention a tournament win could really mean something. |
Aug. 16 5ToolsinOhio Men's 50 160 posts | Well, i have watched the younger game get watered down with the E/D division and the word sandbagging everywhere , and here in senior ball well you have the same problem. Big difference is lots of money in those lower classes in the young game. What happened to the players that want a chance to play against the so-called best any chance they can! |
Aug. 18 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Congrats on Edge winning our bracket! Tommy, Darrell, Joe, Terrell, Mike J, Snowman and the rest! You really came out swinging in the top of the 7th, scoring 18! Just to let everyone know, two of the three 55 AAA teams beat us on Friday and Saturday morning the third team forced us to extra innings. Props to those teams! I think it's time for someone to look closer at some of the teams playing in the AAA division. |
Aug. 18 Player 86 posts | Bruce, suppose - just suppose - a 70 Major Plus team was required to play a 65 Major team, the best 2 out of 3, even-up, should both teams be invited to the TOC? |
Aug. 19 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Player, my opinion is that both should be awarded a berth. Apparently there is much more to this rule than what we might call common sense. I would think that the top finishing team of each age division and skill level would be invited. |
Aug. 19 Player 86 posts | Bruce, each team was told only the winner went to the TOC. My query; at the TOC, should the younger team play in the 70 MP brackets or should the older team play in the 65 M brackets? |
Aug. 20 tg69 393 posts | Thanks Bruce.Nice to see that some people can lose with grace. Our team played as well against you as we could possibly play.Glad now we just played the one . |
