Discussion: Runner clarification

Quick understanding of this rule

§8.5(5) • COURTESY RUNNER OFFICIALLY IN THE GAME
A courtesy runner must report to, and be acknowledged by, the umpire before play resumes. A courtesy runner
may enter the game only prior to the first pitch to any batter. A courtesy runner is in the game when he touches the
base. If a courtesy runner is determined illegal, he will be called out upon touching the base and no other courtesy unner is allowed. The original runner may not return as the runner. An illegal courtesy runner on base is
committing a continuing violation and may be called out upon appeal at any time while on base or, if he scores, prior
to the first pitch to the next batter.

Trying to understand how can a runner score before the next pitch?
Follow up if cr runs illegally but not caught until they advance to another bag he becomes legal correct?

To be clear the rf played close enough to throw runner out if it was caught. The other team joked because rf left ball in right and said can we appeal? We gave him crap, we all laughed. It was all in fun but later we wondered what the call would be. Can they run back out and get thur ball for appeal? Etc.
Thanks for the clarification of that rule

Just for knowledge wanted an answer on a play we had that didn't become an issue but made both sides wonder after game.

Scenario

1st and 3rd one out. batter hits single to right field over the head of fielder. Runner on 3rd scores for 7th run of inning. RF leaves ball in outfield and runs in to change sides.
Both runner on first and batter go to dugout without touching next bag. All but 3 defensive players entered their dugout when jokingly defense said they didn't touch the next bags. Ball was left in right field. Can they go back out and grab ball to appeal bags? Offense was already taking the field.
I can see where both runners are out once they entered dugout but can also see where defense gave up on play so ball is dead.
What's your opinions?

Wondering if you can appeal your new rule suggestion if approved. I agree with rule except when the batter's box is chalked incorrectly. I been experienced countless times thur box made too thin. 34 sometimes 30 inches wide but umpire will insist on enforcing ut.
Could a player really be ejected when the box is wrong?
I guess maybe it's a dual edge sword. If erased hote could a director measure?
Your thoughts?

I guess more people want to bash ssusa for bracket updates then respond to this lol. Much rather have a variety of vendors then care about a topic being re hashed every year. That's just me though.

I didn't see a polling option but lets try anyway. Admin please delete if people start drifting.

Simply put I ask players to respond for it or against it

based on outcome the hope is SSUSA can bring this up at National meeting. Maybe develop an event charge that can total what SSUSA currently gets for a yearly sponsor. This way at large events we can have several apparel, bat and softball related vendors for players to chose from. 5to 15 vendors at a fee each big event could raise more then the few big company yearly charge. Just a thought, I know Vegas allows it as its done in ASA and USSSA large events

WOULD YOU, AS A PLAYER LIKE TO SEE A WIDE VARIETY OF VENDORS AT THE BIG EVENTS AS COMPARED TO THE LIMITED MAJOR EVENT SPONSORS?

Thanks for all you do SSUSA see ya in a few days

Totally agree. 40s seem to go great. Texting to get bracket adjusted times was easy, games on time or early and majority of umps made it about the players not themselves. Would rate this experience at an all time high 92 out of 100.
Only thing I would change is lose the rings. To me it's insulting. Here me out for a second.
We played at bld so add $350 to the 525 entry fee just to play, then add a minimum of $4500 more if you win. A team who wins a strong event should get a little something other then an additional bill for rings for winning. Other then the rings best run event so far. Speaking about my division only

Ssusa can I get a number on 40 men's major entered so far. Even if it's more then??
We are gambling with $2000.00 And with no refunds I can't tell my team to trust me. 8 hours is a long way to go for a small combined division 4or5 team event

If you can't give a number of teams can you agree if less then 5 teams in same division and level you will allow a team to drop out after deadline and not return money but hold it for future event?

Or suggest something else. Maybe $100 withdraw fee after deadline for first week $300 after 2nd week

One could also ask why Benji continues to come on this board and complain about people complaining and blaiming others. You know most of the comments here are players unhappy but yet you continue to complain about complainers. Take that sucka....... see you in st George??

Discussion: first baseman charging the plate during delivery of the pitch

Lb16 I don't know why people like you know it all and anyone else who responds differently then you clearly are fools. It's a softball board.
1 I find it hard to believe that a first baseman CHARGED THE PLATE. So the guy ran to home plate and umpire didn't stop the play... doubt it. What it seems like the op is saying to me is he ran in that direction aggressively moving from say 10 feet behind 1st to 20 feet in front of first. If that's closer to what happened then it's the same thing that happened to us but with the 5 man. So lb16 feel free to put that in your pipe and smoke it.
2nd if you have a problem with me posting feel free to message me.

No such rule. We had a 5 man play to that right and 10 feet in front of his pitcher. Ump called time and told player to get back to his position. The player asked for director. Director told blue he doesn't have to be anywhere specific. He moved back after the 2nd shot went by him. This was worlds in Vegas

Discussion: Shoe Inserts.

A few things that have helped me over the years. Although younger, being a big guy always had foot issues.

Had a bad heel spur so bad was going to need surgery. Last ditch effort I bout a pair of Z Coil shoes. Wore them every day for 6 months. Spur went away and has been gone since 2011. Tip find a local store to get sizing then buy them on ebay much cheaper or get your doctor to prescribe them and insurance will pay part.
2nd was Sorbothane Ultra Sole Insoles been using these since foot locker days in 1990. To this day I put them in dress shoes work boots and such.
3rd is my new turfs. 1st pair I have had in 20 years of softball that I dont have to take off during breaks. Tried them all some sponsored and some cost me a right arm. Nothing has come close. Athalonz turfs are the way to go.

Any of these 3 can help

Discussion: survey

I say simple math because it is very very rare the following happens consistently.

1. 3 batters swing at 1st pitch and all get out then the same happens in the bottom of the same inning
2. you have a 1,2,3 inning on both halves of the inning
3. 5 or 7 runs are scored every inning by both sides.

With that said as teams get older other factors are harder to enoforce realisticly. Such as getting on and off the field and getting runners. Simply, we get slower as we age. Since you cant change Father Time you look to other areas.

The big question for me would be what are the percentages per division that caused SSUSA to take a look.
I doubt the 40s had a lot of complaints that they werent getting all 7 innings in.
My guess is the older age groups are the ones who had more 5 and 6 inning games in the time allowed.
So lets say 40s were 10%, 50s 20%, 60s 40%, 70s/80s 30%.

How do you achieve a happy result to meet the complaint? cant make people move faster then father time lets them, one way is the NEW CR rule but after that what else?

JB I get wanting the 0/0 but simply based on your opinion above you actually want the one and one.
If a first pitch strike is thrown and everyone is swinging not wanting to be down 0-2 then there is no need for the 0/0 count

I think its clear OZ40 doesn't want a 1-1 count lol

With respect your reasoning is simply personal not an overall better for the game thought process.

The reason for this vote has been made clear but some still arent getting it as well.
No one from SSUSA wants to speed up and rush players they want to give more teams the opportunity to play 7 innings more consistently.

They are not saying its 100% guaranteed or everything is exact. They want a majority answer so they can move forward.

Clearly I am for 1 and 1 as much or more then Oz isn't.

As I mentioned before the only things that change is more innings played. Simple math says if you take out 12 pitches an inning you save time.
We can all spend countless hours debating the what ifs but as I said before I played all year long and never felt rushed, never felt cheated and always played 7 innings of softball.

As I had mentioned in detail before. Bottom line is its simple math. a 1 and 1, none to waste will guarantee more innings played 98.9% of the time.

Discussion: Bat Shelf-- Who Has One?

there are a few out there but I recommend going to batshelf.com. you can customize it any way you want. the cuts are machined and etching on shelves.
You can make it yourself which i have done before but after all said and done buying the second one was easier and much better fit.
