Thanks guys! Definitely was an awesome tournament to win. 15 excellent teams that fought hard. Had some great games that could've gone either way. Fortunately for was we ended up getting the
right bounces at the right time. Total team effort paid off for us.
Thanks again

Webbie,
No I didn't play on the 60's team. I played on the 50's. To answer your question I have played in quite a few games where the HR limits were met by both teams. That being said if in your age group that doesn't happen very often than how is the DBO going to matter anyway?
In my post I am not insinuating PLUS players can't do both. Just the opposite! They can do both but when given the choice some want to take base hits, game management and defense out of the game.
My choice obviously is not too. Why should the game of softball be changed to a HR derby just because technology has made it possible for pretty much anybody to hit HRs (at least in the 50's where I play).

Dale,
My name is Doug Kett #22 and I play for DLB. I played with Line drive for 3 years before they folded.
I'm not against whatever number of HR's they give but IMO the DBO is what makes a team play a softball game.

Mario, What does that have anything do with what I wrote!!! My response was to your comment about players not force up not liking the DBO. Again I think the rule is better for the game. The DBO help makes senior softball a much better and more exciting game. I don't care how many of your balls the pitcher touched in 5 years.

Mario,
You don't know me but I for one love this DBO rule. I like the fact that it puts strategy and defense back the game. If you can play at the plus level you should be able to get base hits anywhere on the field not just the middle and be able to play defense. To me those that don't like the rule are the ones unable or unwilling to make themselves and senior softball better. The best softball and players in the world (USSSA Major)has a DBO rule why should we be any different?

Tim,
You can add me to that list. Only problem is somebody is going to have to
start making them again because they won't last very long.

Kid,
Everybody loves to hit the HR for sure but the HR is not what makes you a ball player.
I am a player who approves the HR rule. I am also a player who could hit HR's when I need to and can get hits when I need to. I can play defense anywhere on the field. If you don't like this HR rule you need to work on your skills so you can hit down and play defense. Step up and challenge yourself to be a complete player. If not start a HR derby tournament association for one dimensional players. By the looks of this board thread you could really make a go of it.
Offense win games defense wins championships!!
As for the mask I agree with it being optional. I say put up a screen if it hits the screen it's an out. This way the pitcher still has a option of try to field the ball or getting behind the screen.

rdrman66,
Your comment, "If your afraid of (for) your safety then either don't play or do something different." They want to play and will play but they are also doing something different as well. They are trying to make the game safer (just like the NFL, or the NHL) so they can go home after. I don't pitch so it really has nothing to do with me being afraid but I do have a friend on the mound. If I did hit a pitcher and hurt them how am I going to feel. I'd have to see that survey that you took to believe that an OVERWHELMING majority of people in senior softball enjoy the game as it!!

rdrman66,
Sounds to me like someone ruffled your feathers. Everybody is entitled to their opinion which is why there is a message board. You getting angry and throwing out an absolutely ridiculous comment, like shut your pie hole doesn't help. Most of the comments are to try and make the game better and safer. One question why would anybody be afraid of Jose Canseco anymore than anybody else?

Perl,
There has been a DBO since the late 80's. The best players have had to adjust since then. It doesn't matter how many teams there are they still have to adjust. I've been playing softball since 1978 at the top levels and believe the HR rule has made for a lot better all around game. The DBO is not what ruined the game at the upper level.
The smokey's was one of my favorite tourney as well but not because of the unlimited HR but because of the atmosphere and the crowds. Do u really think an unlimited HR rule will help these teams beat Resmondo or laservision. Absolutely not!!! Even though they don't stand much of a chance with it they would have no chance without it.

I don't know why people keep saying DBO for every level but major plus. That doesn't make any sense at all. The best players in the country have to adjust when the HR's are gone why not us?
It really blows my mind how people what to make it a one dimensional game. If you can't adjust your swing you're not a major plus player or don't want to adjust then you are a selfish player. Do what's better for the game!!!!! As for the pitcher put up a screen and let the him decide if he wants to try to field the ball or stay behind the screen. Hit the screen it's an out. SIMPLE and you still have for the most part a real softball game!!

Discussion: players please respond to rule changes

This my personnel opinion. Who cares I know. Here I go anyway. There are so many different reasons for wanting or not wanting some of these rules. I will play any type of softball game they have why because I love the game, the competition and most of all the friends I've made. Given my choice of game I'd like best. I'd say whatever HR limit they make and a DBO. Why because now you have defense, strategy, running, base hits and power all in 1 game. That's what softball is. It's not a hit it as far as u can, then sit down till your next time up. There's no strategy there. That's just a HR derby. By the way if somebody does start up a HR derby tournament I'm in.
NOT JUST A GAME BUT A PASSION.
Happy Holidays One and all.

Sparky, Unlimited arc is never going to happen. They wouldn't get 10 teams in all the divisions combined.

Patty, I too like this rule.
It's not about whether or not you hit HR's when you were young or not. It's about putting skill into the game. Base hits, defense and strategy. Most anybody can hit it out but who can keep it in
when your not suppose to hit it out!! There are enough HR's in the game to make a mistake or two and not hurt you.

I believe the home run rule is great for all divisions. Everybody keeps saying there shouldn't be a DBO rule in the PLUS divisions. What makes that division any different than all the rest. If there is a limit in one division there should be a limit in all division. First off the senior bats are STUPID and the balls are STUPID. Pretty much anybody can hit the ball out of the park. Lets have some strategy in the game.
For those that say its for safety purposes you can't raise the HR rule to protect the pitchers. Do something like put a screen the width of the mound in front of the pitcher. Again I agree with the DBO rule.
P.S. Maybe they can start a team HR derby tournament.
