Discussion: Abused kids need equipment

A while back a message was posted for abused kids in Austin that needed softball equipment. I'd like to thank Tom Paris and his Dallas Spurs 55 team for taking those items with them to Austin and dropping them off to the Academy that needed it. Way to go Tom and the Dalla Spurs 55 team. I hope others also sent some things to them. I sent what I had. Tom advised they could use any and everything guys can send. Help them out if you can. Also, if anyone in the Austin area cares to help, they could use your help in teaching the kids to play. This is just one of the many great things about Senior Softball. Anyone coming to our Firemens Benefit tournament in Pasadena, Tx , at Kipper Mease, on July 26 and 27, please bring anything your not using and I will see that it gets delivered to them. Thanks all.

PS A little note: Christian Bros Auto, along with THC and the CIty of Houston will be having a benefit tournament in early October for The Houston Food Bank. Entry fee will be a bag of food each. Can't beat that. Please put Oct. 4 or 11 on your schedule. This will be media covered and a great event. More info to follow at a later date.

Discussion: softball world lost another player

I know the Houston area and everyone else is saddened by the loss of Mike. I got to meet him at our tournament in Pasadena and what a very classy man. A definite inspiration to all. I know what its like to lose someone to cancer and we have a few here who are beginning the fight against it. My team and I will say a prayer for MIke's family. Tell the family there are many praying for them.

Kiest Park is one of the nicest facilities you could play in. My congratulations to THC/SSUSA on picking this site. Fields were good, the grounds crew deserved a special thanks for working on the fields inbetween EVERY game. Guys, it was hot out there and they did a magnificent job on the fields and making sure we had plenty of water. Best grounds crew I have seen in 8 years. Overall the umps did a great job. My congratulations to all the winners who move onto TOC. It was a fun weekend. Good to see a lot of guys I hadn't seen in a while. One of the reasons we go to these tournaments. Thanks THC/SSUSA and Kiest Park officials.

Discussion: Diatance: 12" vs 14" ball

Taits. There is a 14 inch or at least I know there use to be. I once played in a 14 inch tournament outside of Chicago. Way different rules then also. Like, unlimited height and runner can leave his base as soon as pitcher releases the pitch. This was a while ago, anyone else play 14inch or rmember playing?

Discussion: SPA TOURNAMENTS

The decision to do the drop dead was terrible. They could have opted for other ways to go. 45 minute game and leave the last inning to unlimited scoring. The way they had it there was never a possibility of scoring more then 5 in any inning. Ridiculous. These rules were for all teams except the three Major Plus teams.
PS That tourney director needs a class in dealing with people. He was not a good representative of SPA, that is for sure. (We all undestood the weather conditions.)

According to the mass replies, I guess we play Boaz Export/ASI best out of 3. We'll take 10 runs and an extra player. Might make it a game then. See you there.

Discussion: My kind of people

Jim Tharp(BoazExport) and I held a Firemen's Benefit tournament this weekend in Houston. We were suppose to play at Kipper Mease, Pasadena. During the early morning hours, someone, turned on the sprinklers to all 3 fields and completely flooded them. When players started to arrive, water was still shooting up from the sprinklers. We immediately searched for other places to play. I need to thank Keith Mixon for getting us the field in Baytown so the 70's teams could play. I also need to thank Jerry Fairies, Lenny Yaffie and Robin Wells from Bayland Park for letting us use their two fields. Thanks to Boaz Exports, Team Houston, Texas Thunder, Mission, Rusty Hooks, Christian Brothers Automotive, Oops, Texas Classics, 70's Crackers, Don Turney(his Dallas 70's team. Not sure of his spelling) and Tom Norman's 70's team. We also want to thank Texas Half Century, Keith Parker and Jim Cary, for supporting this torunament and making it a huge success. Believe me when I say Texas Half Century supports senior softball and these two guys are out to prove it. Thanks to all the teams that had to pick up and travel the 45 minutes to another park, then played with the schedule changing due to only 2 fields available. We played much later then anticipated and the guys were just great about it. All the teams showed class with this problem. Thanks to the out of town teams for hanging with us. I had to miss the 70's game due to them playing in another city. A special thanks to Larry Parrack who team is from Corpus Christi. They stayed played great and not once complained. Even with that long drive home after we got done around 9PM. Jim and I can't thank you all enough for hanging with us. Softballers, this shows you the class that is in Senior Softball. Playing with men like this. Thank you all.
