Discussion: NEW COMBAT DIRTY

Webbie - eseman - thank you for your answers - I guess Ron is on his way to Reno in his big a$$ RV - or couldn't find his glasses or maybe both couldn't find his glasses but found his RV - so look out Cleveland.

Seems like this is a valid bat choice.

Ron - how's the bat holding up? Any idea how many swings/contacts on it so far.

Has it done the Combat end cap distance flight thing yet?

Discussion: The Stutter Step

The more I think of it - it seems the shuffle or stutter step is really supseptible to pitchers that can make the ball move - either curve (which some can for 12" or more) drop (ditto) or knuckle - worse with headwind and a pitcher that knows how to seam it accordingly. If you start to move you commit - if you've decided to swing you're toast.

It may be more of a situational hitting strategy than a constant if facing upper level pitchering. If you got a guy pitching that's just trying to hit different parts of the zone/plate not varying his pitches/distance/height/delivery/ball speed/trajectery/cadence/spin/attitude - then the shuffle might tend to be more successful.

There is a difference in classifications. And this is one area of them.

How do you get a Miken 2 piece? Get a Miken Ultra or Maxload and use it. How to get a Miken 3 piece? Get a Miken 2 piece and use it.

Some things never change - except for your checkbook balance if you decide to keep using them.......

If you want to bet on a sure thing bet on gravity. If you want to lose - bet on Miken durability............has as much pop as a bottle of champagne on new years eve - and about the same life span

I recognized that it was Cyrillic. Where I am now is multi-national and I have a lot of friends who are not English based so I used Bing translator to see if it was softball related or not.

We have international tournies here with many different languages so I thought there might have been a chance it was either related to our sport - or trouble - so I took a look to see if I could help one way or the other.

You know - I MAY have to be back to the US at about the same time as RR. If so I might just hook up & head out and get the chance to see everyone there. I've got bats/gear stored in the rig so may get some BP in. Now - talking to the wife maybe we'll stay for a couple of months and RV it (I'm thinking of tourney locations but she doesn't know that) and play some ball too. Have to see how it goes. But 2 months 24/7 still won't straighten out the dance moves.....

Walking the box...some are very successful with it and can crush the ball....a couple of guys I spoke with were avid active tennis players and they liked it because it helped them place/gap a ball like they are use to. One young guy can go 375-400 consistantly to pretty much all fields. In Thailand they call it the Chiang Mai Shuffle.

I've experimented with it in BP. Sometimes feels good - most times feels awkward - but I can't dance either. I'm ususally at the front of the plate so walking up/starting from the back of the box didn't feel right

I think it's something you have to dedicate yourself to and have patient team mates playing tourney ball because you are not going to be consistant hitter for your team until you get it down. It does seen logical that you could pick up some pop as you are actively moving toward the ball. I know I had a few wow swings when it went right.

It's easier off a tee. But unless you are a tennis player or Happy Gilmore it will take a LOT of work.

Discussion: Public Forum VS Anonymity

Navy - that was me and the reason was that I check a couple of softball related boards and you were on with new/1st time posts praising a brand. It seemed at the time to be a faux post - we've had a lot of those - but that is in the past. As others have pointed out you are real.

I don't think the board should be used for company/vendor advertising. SSUSA is pretty tolerant with it but there are quite a few thinly veiled commercial messages in spite of the fact that it is specifically forbidden under the terms for use of the board. On other boards they are removed pretty quickly unless in the "sales" section and SSUSA should probably do the same here as they have their own store and advertisers to protect (in all fairness).

There's a place to put your email address on your profile - we all know who sells what and that is a private way to communicate that is available to all of us.

I like to see names posted when I see an interesting comment. It's a small softball orbit out there and we get to know each other coast to coast so I like to see if I know who the person is.

On the other side of the coin more often than not when it's a viscious serial ranter more often than not there only seems to be commas where information is supposed to be. It seems like the people with real problems/attitudes have been removed and the board has automatically once again become a useful informative source with members that were driven away returning.

By and large it is a well contained community that polices itself well. When the fur flies (which it will) now the board tends to equalize itself fairly quickly.

Personally I think if someone wants to post they should leave some information in their profile as to their identity with contact information and hold an SSUSA card.

Yeah I caught it Swing...

First they have to get here and then be proven with consistant performance and durability. It would be nice to get away from the Miken-auto break technology.

In the meantime there's 10,000's of thousands of $200 bats that could have a prolonged life with the use of the Tuff Sleeve. Seems like a good trade off.

s4tf - you sure you're swinging from the right end of the bat?

I guess they could last 1000's of swings if you never make contact!

Scott - for $12.99 (lasted Bob - 5 years $2.50 a year say) Figure you don't break a lot of bats and only break 3 a year - your $12.99 Tuff Sleeve will still be around supplying you with extra BP swings after you've gone through $3000.00 worth of bats during that time.

It's also possible you'd go through less bats by prolonging the use of your bats for BP that you've previously discarded.

Given the fact that factors even as simple as the cost of gasoline are cutting into the softball budget this seems like a bargain to me.

W37 - whether we believe as you or wonder what type of kool aid you've been drinking your post (or any other away from this topic) along with your own personal viewpoint does not belong in a softball forum.

If you are so eager to spout this stuff off go find a political forum and have all the fun you want. There will be plenty of folks there that will gladly support you or take you on. YOUR view of history and political science will be in better company there.

Wouldn't fit well on the field and it does not fit well here either.

Not relevant here.

Knowing Steve's swing & seeing the condition of that Miken & how fragile the Reds are this thing obviously works. A lot bats die in BP so it has a very practical application. Especially for those that take BP often with a lot of reps.

For those that have used it for awhile how long does the Tuff Sleeve typically last?

Got it Kevin - one website showed liabilities 10-50 Mil - other one shows assets of 1M-10M - liabilities 1M-13M. They showed number of debtors at 50-99 - so far the court matrix shows 213

They may be OK if something else doesn't unexpectedly blow the end cap off...........

Getting back to Combat.......

If I have read it correctly Combat has about 10 Mil assets and 50 Mil liabilities.

It would take a lot of effort to be able to continue. I don't think there will be a lot of suppliers or financial institutions willing to offer credit terms, financing, etc. Possibly ripe for a sale/buyer with deep pockets to rescue the company but there does not seem to be a lot of upside here for the present company.

It would be sad to lose one of the best lines of bats out there.
