Discussion: Home plate Mat size change?

ok the ball is 3" in diameter....so that is 3" to each side ...plate is 17" wide...add 6" and you have 23" total....so 24" sounds like a good width to me.....now for the length...it is already 34" long..so why not have the mat 36" long....and anyone saying that the mat is easy to hit....that is BS...as anyone who has pitched knows......

Discussion: Foot placement in batter's box before pitch

bruceaz....what assoc are you looking at....as ASA has it that the batters foot must be completely inside the box before the pitcher ..pitches.......

katzy..not according to ASA...batter must be completely in the box before the pitch...no over hanging like when making contact.....as a pitcher i have called out batters who standing outside the box to the ump...and ump just basically ignores it...

Discussion: Does This Make Sense??

yes it will...you need to check the speed after you contact a softball...if that speed is dropping a whole lot..your not powering thru the ball...ray demarini in his video showed he could dry swing a bat 95 mph 26-29 oz(using speed gun)....but would loose speed when he made contact with the ball.......he lost the least amount of speed swinging a 26 oz bat...that is what your looking for.....

Discussion: HELP---I just don't get it!

tell ya this...if any hitter wants to hit that low on the ball(4-5 on a clock) i would pitch to him/her all day long...nothing but long pop-ups at best for the hitter....for back spin all you need to be is an 1/8-1/4" below center of the ball(aka 3 on the clock)....anything lower gets nice pop-ups and fly balls for the defense
dead center gives you knuckle balls off the bat....1/8-1/4" below gets back spin....the same distance above dead center gives you top spin..

gary you can go 1 of 2 ways.....

sort out the age groups by skill of the players...then draft them blindly out of a hat or such..example..put all the M+/M together and draft those first...then AAA/AA players.....then draft rec players...do this for each age grouping......might want to sort by position also to even it out......at least for pitchers...

or straight out name draft.....this ok if all the coaches know the players...hold a tryout for new guys so all the coaches can see the new guys.....to me this takes way more time as you need a board to watch who has been drafted......

otay ju25......yes i bought a pair when they first came out....didn't see any difference personally...can see where they might help tho...by getting the bat out of the deep v between the thumb and first finger.....

Discussion: When Is It Bat Altering?

bruce they actually have weighted batting gloves(fingerless)....wade boggs endorses a pair....you put up to 8 oz in them....they are mostly for workout, but i wouldn't see a prol with using them if ya want.....i use them when i do my macenko bat speed drill, hitting off a tee..and sometimes when doing live bp......

ju25...touching a bat to make its performance better is illegal..and that is to include rolling of any sort....rolling will enhance the sweet spot of a bat by making it larger..hence the performance enhancing....

Discussion: 1 and 1 pitch count

mmmm...how many still play young guy ball...if you do you will be playing 1-1 count as they all are doing that now and have been for a few years.....what is really wrong with a 1-1 count...oh i see...some superstars want the perfect pitch to drive....since it is already a hitters game why do they need even more of an advantage....let the pitcher in the game and have him/her become part of it instead of them just being a pitching machine for the batters......i don't care if it does or don't speed the game up...lets have a 1-1 count.....

really guys..whinging about the size of the batters box, which has been the same since moses was playing softball......why don't we just give ya's a tee and let ya hit off that...hell you could set it up so you can blast away....it is already a hitters game..let the pitchers have some say in the game....
