I am in Pensacola this week and plan on hitting with the guys at Exchange Park tomorrow morning. Is there a tournament this weekend? If so where and what days. I might like to watch a couple of games.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I will be there next Tuesday at around 8AM. I don't know about other times, since I am there with my wife and visiting my daughter and son in law, with my son flying in from Alaska. Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Ron

Thanks guys. Joe looking forward to several of these pickup games. I'll put this on my schedule. Looking at relocating to the Pensacola area next year, so I'd like to meet some of the guys and play a little this year. Also, great tune up for Reno.

Gentlemen, I will be visiting the Pensacola area from the 10th of May for about 10 days. Looking to hit and workout during that time. It looks like Exchange park is the place for senior softball. Any suggestions or invitations? Thanks in advance.

I have found that Boombah's are by far the best fitting pant available. They have many styles and color combos. As stated above, the clearance section should have a black pant with a stripe of various colors available.

HJ, Didn't check the heart rate, but it has got to be up there after the last 2 all out sprints. The thing you have to be careful of is pulling something, especially during the last 2 sprints. I wouldn't do all out effort until you have built up some time at 70-80 percent.I have trouble with quads and now calves. At 69, this gets a little tougher every year.

I agree, softball is basically sprinting in short bursts. I warm up, then sprint 50 yd. dashes, with a walk of about 50 yds in between, for 6 sets early in the season. Start at 50% the first 2 sets, 80% the next 2 sets, then all out the last 2. I walk and jog for about 2 weeks before this.

This is what concerns me about a 2nd batch fix. The original Barrage, by many accounts was pretty hot out of the wrapper. It looks to me as if the 2nd batch is not as hot. Sometimes they stay that way. Only time will tell. When Miken tried to improve the durability of the red end load, it was a disaster. No amount of batting practice could fix it. I'll take performance everytime.

Gary, The only way I would guess to know the difference would be in the time frame of purchase. I purchased mine in June of last summer. I would guess that anything purchased later in the year, December or so, would be the new formula, according to posts on this board. If you noticed a difference between your first purchase and the second, then you probably have the new and improved batch. Once Miken gets the process down, they will probably stick with it.

Since this is a changed formula, my concern is the new batch would not be as hot as the first batch. The first batch 2 piece Miken, which I have unfortunately, has taken forever to break in. The newer batch is much hotter out of the wrapper. Sometimes when the tweaking takes place from one batch to another, there can be good and not so good results. I will be interested to see what the players who have hit both batches of Reeboks have to say.

Discussion: where are all the pitchers

A well hit softball will be in excess of 90 mph. More like 100- 102 mph. The USSSA bats of the mid 2000s were rated at 100 mph +. The senior bats we use today, with a good ball and a good power hitter, have at least an exit speed of that level. I'm told the original ultra had an exit speed of around 107+.

Discussion: Reebok Barrage Legend is GREAT BAT

Swing, Never swung Combats, but it sounds as if you had a really good one.I think that the bat companies today are trying to find the right combination. I bought an end loaded Miken two piece last summer. I have about 300 or so swings on it and it is just starting to open up. It seems real durable, but is taking forever to get the distance my red Miken has. I'll be able to tell within the first couple of tournaments this year if it has the right stuff. I'm just trying to state that the allocation for bats, even the fragile ones, are not that big of a percentage of the total cost of playing senior tournament softball. I take my wife, so my expenses are higher than a player traveling by themselves. But for me,the total for Reno and Las Vegas, is around $3500. So, for 2 bats a year at $400 for both, you're looking at about 12% of the total cost. And that's just 2 tournaments.

It's very difficult to have both extreme performance and good durability. Look what Miken tried about 1 1/2 years with the red endload. Many duds redoing the hottest bat in senior softball. Most seniors say they want both, but when the rubber meets the road, performance is king. What we may spend on a couple bats( or maybe more), is a drop in the bucket compared to what we spend in and to tournaments every year.
