| March 17, 2014 Huntsman Senior Games Men's 50 1 posts | Huntsman World Senior Games I am new with the Huntsman World Senior Games and I want to know what we can do to improve the event? Any ideas will help!!! |
| March 17, 2014 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | About the only thing, game wise, would be using a database of players at levels placed by you or if able to gather from other assn's and rate teams more accurately. "You" use so many brackets and players are jumping from one near bottom one time to another at or near the top level. Personally I love the open rosters but how the teams are or have been placed is not always kosher. Best fields out there as are also in Mesquite lately. Sun and occasionally wind effect a few fields perhaps those game times could looked at. Especially the sun factor. Dusk and dawn. Fantastic place to play for the week or two. |
| March 17, 2014 Wes Men's 65 335 posts | I have been there two years and I will not be coming back any time soon for the following reason. I'm going to play in 15 tournaments this year and each tournament has a 5 game guarantee and we do that in two days some times three. To play one game a day and make us stay out there for a full week is much much to long. I understand that it is a very nice place to take a vacation but I come to play ball. Wes |
| March 17, 2014 BruceAZ Men's 70 155 posts | Last year was my 5th year, some good experiences and some bad. Great fields and the area is very nice, usually do a Zion day trip for a little hiking. For the 55s and 60s, 4 and 5 days is too long, cut it down to 3 days. There are always teams that seem to sandbag since it's an open roster. Your tournament committee doesn't use other assn ratings and they don't even look at the teams rating from previous years. Two years ago a Team won the Gold medal in the A division and the next year they were placed in the B division, it doesn't make any sense. At least look to see what a team does and how they were rated in the previous years they were there. |

Reasons I've heard is as BruceAZ stated above. And also it's too close to the Worlds for a lot of people. Good luck with any positive changes you make and thank you. Don. |

We just come and play to have fun. We have won, we have lost, but we enjoy playing. We now come over from Las Vegas for a 2 week "experience"! |
| March 18, 2014 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | I love the Huntsman: the area, the nice field conditions, the amenities, the ceremonies, the health prevention emphasis, playing guys from other parts of the country, the other sports being contested while the softball is on, etc. So, why haven't I gone in the last five years? I've been on two teams in that time. One team stopped going because of the crazy scheduling that sometimes results in just one game a day, and this results in a lot of extra days and unnecessary expense for lodging and food that is costly. The schedule could be corrected by Huntsman organizers. The second team hasn't gone for years because of the sandbagging. Seeing teams that we were equal to playing in a lower bracket and bringing home the gold really bothered them. The deliberate sandbagging (each player playing a new position; batting opposite-handed; etc.) in seeding rounds was another irritation. Huntsman organizers seemingly make no use of season-tested ratings of hundreds of teams to try to make the brackets and competition balanced. The last time I attended, I was playing for a new team as an add-on (and on a team where many of the players were a bit above my skill level) and it just wasn't the same. Didn't really bond socially in just one tournament, so it hasn't interested me to join a new team just for the Games since that experience five years ago. These complaints are certainly not unique to me. We have all heard them or experienced them. But thus far, the Huntsman organizers seem to not respond. Hope this thread is a beginning of a new direction. |

I've never been to an event where seniors from all over the world act like kids being away from their parents!! lol I don't know about the other sports but personally to improve the softball have it be the standard friday, saturday and sunday event or even thursday friday saturday with sunday being the travel home day. jmho |

The 1st time I can remember I played without pressing in years. Enjoyed every moment of both the softball and watching friends participate in other sports. Hope to return every year possible. |

| March 20, 2014 pureevil 19 posts | Sorry I truly do not understand most comments , this will be my third time at huntsman and love every minute. The first two years watching my wife play and thus year I get to play finally 50. From the complexes too the view of the surrounding areas,the time spend with teammates for a week too the best shakes ever at icebergs. I look forward every year and do so this year. If you play for the gold you are missing the man reason of this sport. I like winning but the other is better at this age. I honestly do not care what division they put us in I am just looking forward to play at canyon. A week of ball with friends just livin the dream.... Brian |

| March 21, 2014 BruceAZ Men's 70 155 posts | Pure, I love to play just as much as the next guy and I'm all for playing with your friends and enjoying the camaraderie but I'll give you another example of the poor work of the tournament committee. 2 years ago I went with friends who play on a 60AA team, but we had to play 55s because I was 57 at the time. We signed up for 55A, played the seeding games and went 1-2 they dropped us down to B for the Bracket and we went 2 and out, that was fine. So last year our coach signed us up for 55B again based on what we did the previous year. The tournament committee placed us in 55AAA for the seeding games, we got run ruled 2 of the 3, complained to the TD, he said he would put us in the correct Bracket after the seeding games. He didn't move us and we got run ruled the 1st 2 games in 55AAA and went home. It's like they said "pay your $1000 entry fee, get beat up on and go home and like it". No one likes to get run ruled in 4 of 5 games, that isn't fun for either team. All I asked them to do was use a teams previous year/years rating to start with in the seeding games and adjust from there but it falls on deaf ears. Sorry for the rambling. Bruce |

| March 21, 2014 JD32 9 posts | Took our 55AAA team to Huntsman in 2007. Got eliminated by a major team that hit 5 hr's in the bottom of the last inning. Did finish 4th and had to convince the directors to award us a bronze because the team that won was major+. Took the same team back in 2008 and 2009 and was knocked out earlier by sandbagging teams that were hitting the ball out to the opposite field. Discussed putting the one up hr rule in effect to level the field. They wouldn't listen. Even emailed them several times without a response. Finally sent them an email stating that we would not be attending again, and we haven't. |
