Aug. 4, 2014 southpaw Men's 70 1077 posts | Igotit, are we going to have to play a best 2 of 2?!!! |
Aug. 4, 2014 southpaw Men's 70 1077 posts | That should be 2/3! Lefty, back in the 80's in New Orleans, I attended Seminary there. As interim pastor in Marrero, we would have a monthly cookout. The chef in our congregation would make gumbo in a 50 gal. drum; stirred it with a boat paddle. Cajun food is the best!! |

Aug. 5, 2014 TexasTransplant Men's 70 516 posts | Crackerbox (70AAA) has withdrawn due to lack of any other teams in our age group. They were going to match us against a 65AA team, but when we learned they had withdrawn, we decided to withdraw, also. We have had two planned tournaments cancelled outright this season and this is the second one in which there were no 70's. It's turning into a disappointing season! Have we reached a point where there are so many tournaments that the turnout for all but the biggest ones is diminished? |
Aug. 5, 2014 Ho 301 posts | No, you are just picking the wrong ones. SSUSA LOUDON COUNTY had seven 70 AAA's, SPA BUCKEYE CLASSIC had 9, SPA SYLVANIA GREAT LAKES had 7 and SPA PEACHTREE CLASSIC had 7. Those are all qualifiers. Heard the same complaint about 80's going to tournaments and had to play 70's, same gripe for the 75's. Yet, the SPA WORLDS next week have THIRTEEN 75AAA's, FOUR 75 MAJORS and FIVE 80 AAA's. There are tournaments out there, you just have to search and ask other 70, 75 and 80 teams where are they going to play and work it out to go to the saem place. The problem is you have to decide if you want to pay $425 and travel 200 miles to play one team in your age.rating group or pay $425 and travel 400 miles to play seven and eight teams. Next year make ceratin you put the SSUSA LOUDON COUNTY tournament on your list and go from there. Check with the other 70's and see where they are playing and go to those tournaments. Ho |
Aug. 6, 2014 L 85 posts | The NSA nationals in July had 7-70s teams I believe but did not have 50s as they had played the week before in Dalton. Had a great tournament hope that more will come next year. |
Aug. 6, 2014 TexasTransplant Men's 70 516 posts | Ho, You make a good point about finding out where other 70's (or whatever age bracket you're interested) in are planning to play. I have long thought that I a useful feature for this board would be to have a place for teams to post their planned schedules so that we could all see where the participation is going to be and adjust accordingly. How about it SSUSA? As to the tournaments you mentioned, I don't know where Loudon County is, but I'm pretty sure anything called Buckeye or Great Lakes is going to be more like 1,000 miles from Plano, TX. I do some pretty serious traveling for the tournament we attend, including the 700+ to the NSA in Gadsden and will be in Dalton (800+). I was prepared for the 600+ to Birmingham, as well, but there are some practical limits, especially for qualifiers. Other than the NSA, the best turnout we have seen this year was 4 teams at the SPA tourney in Raymore, MO and 4 at the SSUSA tourney in Liberty, KS, both 450+ miles for me. Typical has been 1 or 2 other teams. Thanks for your input. TT |
Aug. 6, 2014 Ho 301 posts | You are right it is about 1,000 miles to all those locations. SSUSA dioes list the teams which will be attending their national tournaments (also some qualifiers if there are more than twenty-five teams). ISSA lists their teams for all tournaments while SPA does not list for any. We (THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC) do list all the teams we are expecting for our JUNE event, starting in JANUARY (as they contact us to reserve a spot)and all the way until tournament time. This year we have also been listing teams for other mid-west SPA tournaments if the tournament TD asks us and gives us the info. In 2015, you may want to consider making one long trip to either LOUDON COUNTY SSUSA (LEESBURG,VA)or to THEE BUCKEYE CLASSIC (BARBERTON,OHIO) If you come up here guarantee you will see at least 12-to-16 other 70 AAA teams and you will play six games against six different teams (we play round robin). We draw between 75-85 AA and AAA teams in all divisions, we do not invite majors. Send me a contact e-mail and I will put you on our mailing list.
