No worries mad dog! ... All divisions are going to 3-day sessions next year at the Texas State Championships (just like EVERY other TOC Qualifier nationally) and the event will NOT be at the Houston Sportsplex in 2016 ... Gotta be a "win-win"!

Is the Texas State Championship even going to be in Houston area, like at Big League Dreams in League City?

dancer...don't know as i left saturday..I was just filling in for the 60's saturday....played 65's thurs and fri.........

staff...why do we need to do 3 days for 6 teams....that is very poor planning on anyone's part.....also when they get a park make sure we can use it for the day and not have to get off it at 4 pm so the park can run their leagues....we had 44 teams total for all ages...playing from thurs - sun.......and they couldn't do everyone in 2 days for age div......

You can certainly do a six-team tournament in one day, but not a 44-team tournament in two-day rolls with field availability constraints ... As for local league based restrictions, we can count on one hand with fingers left over the number of facilities nationally that will defer local leagues in favor of seniors events ... It's a fact of life (almost) everywhere ... We also received several health and safety related concerns/complaints about the number of games per day required, especially in the 65+ and 70+ age divisions under the 5-game guarantee, two-day structure ... In any event, the 3-day format for all divisions of the Texas State Championships next year will bring it in conformity with ALL other SSUSA TOC Qualifiers, and that's a good thing ...

I agree fully with mad dog. If there are not many teams, why would you drag it out over 3 days? Have some divisions/age groups play Thur-Fri, others Fri-Sat and others Sat-Sun.

If SSUSA takes a local tournament and turn it into a 3 day 3 nite event How Many Will Attend? Are the one that are being concerns/complaints (from Staff) wanting to pay for an additional day and night of expenses.

I doubt I will attend. This is not negative as I do have reasons, I just will not be able to attend.

Guys why don't you ask SSUSA to do the brackets, All you are looking at is your bracket and to heck with the other teams. If they let you do the brackets you would take care of your bracket and to heck with everyone else regardless to how many games you had to play in a day.
Lets say they let your six team tournament play the two pool games on the first day. Then start the 3 game bracket and play one game in bracket. You get beat in your first bracket game then on Sunday you would have to play 7 games back to back to win the tournament. NOW that sounds like a bunch of fun

I can only speak for the 50's AAA bracket, but things seem to run relatively smooth both Saturday and Sunday. Played 2 pool games first thing Saturday morning and bracket play commenced Saturday afternoon. All six teams played their pool games concurrently so there was no advantages there. Where the fields the best... no, but I've played on a lot worse. We can't forget that the Houston Sportsplex is a much older complex and also that the fields was basically under water just a few weeks ago with all the rain in the area. The championship "if" game finished up right before the local leagues where scheduled to play. Dancer: The skies were very threatening early Sunday morning, but other than a little drizzle, the weather was fine.

Overall, no complaints. It's easy to find issues after the fact after any tournament...and I'm sure there were plenty valid ones this past weekend in Houston. But with the complaints, there should also come some suggestions and ideas with how to make our tournaments better.

I can tell you after running some tournaments it
does not make any difference if you do it in
2 days of 3 days or 4 days there will be complaints by more than one or two. I stopped
doing it because we, as a group, are not very
nice people and can some time just be cruel

Wes I can't blame you. If the complainers can do a better job, then they should do it. But all they want to is complain and not get involved.

That is why I never complained at an umpire. First it would do no good. Second, unless I am willing to do it (Umpire) and make a difference, then I should not say anything. Besides, my eyes are not that quick and I would be an horrible umpire on a close call. Easy calls I can make. LOL.

I have to Commend SSUSA for what a wonderful job they do running tournaments. When we travel to tournaments, both near & far, I can always count on 2-3 games a day, except maybe on the last championship day. I love the scheduling. 2-3 games a day is perfect for our old beat up bodies. We are usually off at a reasonable hour & can relax, see the sights & always plan on going out to a nice dinner with my team mates.

So there were 44 teams, with how many different divisions? Think of the logistical nightmare that presents. Softball players are going to complain that they don't want early games or they don't want late games. SSUSA does a great job trying to accommodate the majority of players.

My recommendation would be to relocate the Texas State
Championship to Austin, TX., There is (11) field complex
at Krieg, with (9) of the fields that are 300 ft. Lots of
things to do in Austin. Austin has great airport to fly into, with all the major airlines serving it.

Krieg fields here in Austin would be a great place for this up coming State Championship. We host the Shoot-Out at Krieg and the question continues to come up why doesn't SSUSA, or SPA ever host a tournament here at Krieg. Our tournament that we had this past June 13th filled up 5 fields with 5 different division and all we heard was SSUSA needs to host their qualifiers here at Krieg. Austin is a central location for all of the in state teams. Austin also has all the perks that come with it for everyone to enjoy. And when players enjoy playing at this location why not give them what they paid for decent fields ...

The only drawback to Austin is the traffic lol.
Those fields are nice, I would love to see some big tourneys there.
