Discussion: Clarification of mask rules

Our team is playing in the Winter Worlds next week and I would appreciate it if the SSUSA would clarify whether an on-deck batter must wear a mask. We had different interpretations from different umpires in St. George. I would think an on-deck batter (who is not near others) would be considered as being on the field and not need a mask, but I’m not certain of the rule. (It’s also a pain in the neck to carry a mask in your back pocket when hitting and running or to go from the on-deck position to put your mask in the dugout before you hit.) Thanks.

Very simple....
.
1- OFFENSE: the batter, on-deck batter (1) and runners on base do not need to wear a mask.
2- DEFENSE: the catcher does not need to wear a mask.
.
Everyone else inside of the dugout or inside of the complex needs needs to wear a mask.

Tim:

In rereading your response, it appears fielders have to wear a mask. I assume that’s not the case, is it?

Tim, the catcher, umpires and base coaches need to wear them.

I believe the catcher DOES have to wear a mask. Unless they've changed things again?

I love masks, they hide my double chins.

Catcher, umpire and base coaches: must wear masks
Batter and players in the field: optional
Players in dugout: must wear a mask or be 6 ft apart
Hope this helps

My mistake. I intended to say that catchers must wear a mask. All other defenders can go without one.

I like masks,I've freed up a lot of time not having to trim my nose hairs.
