| Jan. 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Kevin and Terry, I stumbled on what could be a very good idea while pursuing another one. Why not use seeding or seating whatever the right word is, games, to try out possible and proposed rule changes and other new stuff. We'd learn what the rules looked/felt like. You'd learn what we have to say about what is affecting us. We'd all feel like we're growing/learning together. Kevin could try out new products in a controlled setting. Why you could even try out as whacky an idea as platooning without guys falling on their high tech swords. (cause you'll be surprised how easy and rewarding it would be) Again, there's a ton of stuff SSUSA or any other association could do to appear/become more relevant to Senior softball as we are, today. That is, if Bill and Terry really want to. That is, if Bill really wants to. |
| Jan. 26 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | I think that will screw up the whole T. You'll have basically two sets of rules for the same one. Just to see if it is liked or works, bad idea, Joe. Either have them, and worded so they are understood, and the effect it will make, as well as enforcing them, or do away with them. |
| Jan. 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Scott, I appreciate your remarks and you don't have to agree with me. There has to be give and take in any successful relationship. I don't think it's a lot for us to give up a little comfort in seating games which fundamentally matter very little in exchange for getting SSUSA to try new stuff first, include us in the experience and then hear what we have to say about whatever it is. Let's say we changed the arc for the seating games to 15 feet, for example. The practice at hitting more difficult pitches we actually help all the batters get ready to hit easier lower pitches of 12 feet and down. Of course you can disagree. I still think just as in Platooning, that this is a very good idea that could help us and SSUSA build a dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship going forward. |
| Jan. 26 tattooball 774 posts | Joe it's seeding. I don't understand why you include my name in this statement. I have never said or eluded to have any say in what goes on in senior softball. I am just a salesman for products. I do however like to get on this message board and have good conversation with good people like yourself. |
| Jan. 26 DCPete 409 posts | As I've said on this board before, there's absolutely no reason in the world why we shouldn't try using 1 - 1 in the seeding games. And when everyone sees how much it improves the pace of the games, they'll want to use it in Double Elimination as well!!! |
| Jan. 26 4x4 Men's 65 601 posts | IF anyone decides to already screw up the game even more than they have recently done by going to the 1-1 count then there should be one foul allowed before the "3rd" strike for an out. In my humble opinion the only possibe productive idea to come out of the recent changes was the idea of protecting the pitcher with the DBO. It beats other possibilities. The rest seem to be completely based on mass producing games in the shortest amount of time rendering the end product as mediocre and declining at best. Granted, this is not a democracy but it sure rings as an aristocracy over and over and over while we sit here compliantly and subserviently thanking them with our time and $$$$$. It seems the advisory commitee is nothing more than the window dressing of a one way communication of which their vote/opinion rarely counts. I think Joe is right. If this group will not listen it is probably time to check into other options. There are bound to be other associations available or the means and support to create some that will help restore the sport to the way it could/should be played. It wasn't that long ago we had 1.25 - 1.50 hour games and the games could be played in their entirety to the satisfaction of all. Now we've made it so commercially successful for them they weaken the product at our expense for their profit. It's going backwards here. |

Bad news for those who forget you go up there with one each on you, or it's windy. As for (an)other place(s) to go, I'll do some research\calling on this. But the few who are actually handing out these rules, seemingly are doing so with a closed mind or regard to problem solving. Some actions made\taken within the last year or so seems to be hypocrisy in motion in my mind. I'm not about to say what that may be, but grab some old news papers from them and read what went on was done and it now a part of the plan. Not saying some will not be favorable though because it just might be. You'd have to go back to papers with articles concerning bat Dr..ing. |
| Jan. 28 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Kevin, I mentioned you because the idea I'm putting forth which is a very good one would allow you or any Vendor connected with SSUSA to use seeding games to showcase, try out, new products, on the spot i.e. bats or balls, for example. Whatever tension was ever between us, Kevin, there's nothing any more. You're a great guy and elite hitter in Softball and I wish you nothing but the best for you and yours. I look forward to seeing you, soon. |

Hell my wife doesn't agree with me ever and were married 23 years.... It just seemed to me that I had something to do with the rules. |
| Jan. 28 DesertGuy Men's 60 224 posts | I like the concept of having a lab to try things out. But beware the likely outrage that can come when rules are changed in mid tournament. May work if it is clear that all of the lab rats go away before the brackets start. Nice thread to consider! |

There was a lot of support for the idea expressed in this forum prior to the summit, only to be ignored again. And forget the extra foul - a hitter who can't keep a slow pitched ball between the lines with two strikes deserves to "grab some pine". |
| Jan. 28 4x4 Men's 65 601 posts | I think it was 7-5 for the 1-1 - but - the ump (BossBandit) had the most revealing opinion/post. Having umped the largest/most important major tourneys and having only 5% of his games excede the time limit his observation was that if the ump kept the game moving along by enforcing/re-enforcing a cooperative effcrt to move the game along the games are completed on a timely basis an overwhelming majority of the time - 95-5. Without changing a thing all we have to do is our part. For the lower divisions that's managing the teams game participation well. Men ready to bat, hustle in and out, courtesy runners designated and ready on the bench knowing who they are runnig for (which is probably our biggest time waster). In the M+ have guys shagging the HR balls. In the measurement of managing the game times we are our own worst enemies. Don't blame the 1-1 or anything else - it's on us. It really does seem to happen more when the umpires are lax/inexperienced/intimidated (time limits/aborted games/complaints). The umps that "manage" their game seem to make things roll along very well. |
