| Sept. 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey guys and gal (Hi Nancy) The last two big tournaments I attended the balls were the newly developed softer balls that are soft right out of the wrapper. One was a Trump the other I think was a Dudley. They both travelled when hit well though a couple of times I hit the center of the ball like I like to do the ball went way into my 1.2 bat but went nowhere. Also, they don't feel good when trying to throw them hard and may cause arm injury when doing so and they move and bounce differently in all aspects of the defensive game making normal bounces and hops appear different, uncomfortably so. Has anyone experienced anything like this and/or can contribute any info we all can use to help us decide what's going on and if we're going to approve or not? Has anyone besides Ray of Gekel and I noticed this, are they "taking over" in the future and why if so, and maybe we should raise up and demand some attention for this issue because maybe we're being led down a path that's not going to be in the best interest of Senior Softball as defined by us, the seniors who play and suffer the game. |
| Sept. 26 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Joe, Do you have a better description other than what you gave? Soft isn't good in my book. Do you play in Cleveland at all? In looking at the ariel view of Cinci and Cleveland, it seems they have an abundance of parks. Can't tell if fences are there or not. |
| Sept. 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Scott, Vapor lock, I think, is what they are. Check out some other posts and it's talked about. There really isn't a batter way to describe them then to say soft to the touch. They're not soft after about 1/8 to a 1/4 of a inch. Then they're hard but the outer layer is SOFT. Some say it feels as though the cover is loose and they are difficult to grip effectively when throwing real hard. |
| Sept. 28 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | hi joe,these are the MCT or vapor-lock balls.they are a good ball to hit especially if there is hi-heat.they are not affected by heat.can't tell ya the reason for the soft feel tho.tell your guys just to grip them firmly to throw,don't squeezze them hard to throw hard.i know with your gorilla hands :):):) might be a little trouble.:):).i have never hard a prol with throwing them where ever i play(position),just be nice to the ball,no choking it. :):) |
| Sept. 29 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Taits, while there are other associations playing in Ohio, some of the most competitive ball is USSSA. You can find out a lot of information on their parks at http://www.usssa.com/sports/ParkDisplay.asp?Sport=17. They are probably the best association for finding out park information. I think Joe might have been in Cleveland, NM, but I have some doubts about being by the great lake. ;-) |
| Sept. 29 RDSinNEOHIO Men's 70 31 posts | If you're talking senior softball, at least in the Cleveland area, there's a couple of leagues. Talent-wise, the best league is in Maple Heights where you can find regular players all the way up to a few Major-Plus players. Mayfield Heights and North Royalton also have 50+ leagues but not tournament-quality competitive. There's a SPA tournament held in Brookpark every year Memorial day and there was also a SSUSA qualifier in Akron. I'm sure the folks in Akron, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati would love to chime in also about Ohio senior softball. |
