| Nov. 17 brian warner Men's 55 54 posts | We just got back from playing and I have to say this was one of worst umpired tournaments I've ever seen. Here we are playing in a big tournament and all we have is 1 umpire per game. Plus we had a umpire who was calling his 1st slow pitch game ever. Then when we get to the finals they give us 2 umpires, but 1 of them has a broken knee cap. Now how can he do his job. This was all done with the directors standing there. There were several calls at 3rd that he couldn't get too. And the other ump. kept saying sorry he couldn't cover all the bases. But the day before they could cover everything alone. Then the pitchers box. One time you hit the pitcher your out then just hit box and your out. Then we get told by UIC you have to hit the torso not a arm or a leg. Might as well called it a Sunday social and had the pastor call the games from the shade of the old oak tree. |

| Nov. 17 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | We played at North Collier in Naples also. Our first umpire said he would call a dead ball out if a hit ball went through the pitcher's box. None called that game. For the next 4 games the umpires said it must hit the pitcher. It wasn't called in the 4 games even though our pitcher was hit on the foot. Apparently he had moved toward second out of the pitcher's box. |
| Nov. 17 CAT 200 posts | We had that "halo" call made against us in Phoenix and it knocked us right out of the finals in the winners bracket....With this call being highly judgemental, the controversy will NEVER end...My feeling is that there should be a verbal warning to the hitter and as well noted.The notices could be kept on an card such as the score card and exchanged to the TD after every game..Then if the player does it for a second offense, it would be an automatic out....and the 3rd. or 4th. time, a game suspension. I know there is a little work involved, but the fees that we pay could warant the issue....I do not think that the majority of us are good enough to maliciously try to hurt someone....at least I hope they don't.Most of us have to go to work at the beginning of the week to provide and income. |
| Nov. 17 BONES Men's 60 93 posts | DBO----i'VE SAID THIS b/4 . to much of a judgement call and will never be consistent. NEVER----the pitcher has options to wear protective gear----leg pads----face mask---helmet--chest protector---what ever his little heart desire. THAT SHOULD REMAIN OPTIONAL. HITTING UP THE MIDDLE IS PART OF THE GAME. Tournament players /pitchers know what their chances are. You have the optional to wear protective gear. If you can't protect yourself or your not sure wear the gear. Simple as that--Quit trying to add screens,pitchers boxes,field dimintions,different balls, different bats etc, etc. As a pitcher that is my opinion on the subject. Stay health and play well SB |

| Nov. 17 wingfoot 18 posts | i could not agree more about the umps! some even said they were not familiar with rules and oh well its just this weekend! We just thought the lighting was bad in Phoenix, this was just as bad if not worse. When a 55plus player hits the ball up the middle and the pitcher cannot see it coming it really doesn't matter if there is a "rule" to protect the pitcher if he can't see it because of the poor lighting. ps: if we plan on using the one piece mat instead of the mat & the home plate, MAKE THE WHOLE MAT WHITE. |

| Nov. 18 Brett Men's 55 239 posts | Hi again Brian. We (KC Barons - 50 major) had a very good year, but unfortunately bombed out in Phoenix at the SSUSA worlds. We had very high expectations going to Phoenix, but we didn't hit anywhere near what we nornally do. This year we won 7 tournaments and took 3rd in the SPA and ISA national tournaments. I hope to run in to you somewhere next year at a tournament. |
| Nov. 18 jah#4 Men's 70 576 posts | We had some good umpires I believe the uic's didn't have a meeting with all the umpires before the tourney started. I saw the ISA shirts the rules differ a great deal. The height of the pitch is one example. The one umpire per game didn't help some call because they where out of position to see the complete play, most of the one man crew hustled and did the best they could Don Ward Kittrell's softball |
| Nov. 18 stucco hank 4 posts | The best thing they can do is to scrap that rule. No matter what umpire you have they will call it different. And Monty I blame the UIC for having that umpire working at all. He really screwed you guys on that one call, everyone in the park got it right except for the umpirers. | Nov. 19 Bobbyc 3 posts | My team played in 55AAA in Cape Coral and generally speaking the umpires did a pretty good job. They did their best to keep control over some difficult situations presented to them, particularly over the "hit pitchers rule". I would like to get to play at the other fields in the Ft. Myers tournament. |

The infields were somewhat soft, so soft that I let the first two ground balls get by me under my glove (anyway thats my excuse!). As a hitter I loved the long Bermuda grass in the outfield. With the 325' fences the outfielders were playing around 300'. A couple of my singles turned in to triples because the grass slowed balls to a stop around 225'. The ourfielders had to charge all balls that were hit on the ground. The best I recall I only had a couple of singles, most were doubles. |
