| Dec. 17 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Dave over the last year I had to hit against Mickey and Randy and Duff off the Mavericks. If you blink they got you. The pitcher from Gekle I think his name was Mark really tough. There were two guys from OKI who were like night and day kept you off balance the whole at bat. Einstein and his crazy knuckle ball. Billy Gombos from the Nighthawks is really tough. There is a pitcher from 5 Spot in NORCAL who is really a bitch to hit off. I missed some of the others who we didn't see from the east coast but there is a clear difference. It is the biggest difference I personally witnessed. |

| Dec. 17 stever Men's 70 99 posts | I think the difference is the bottom of the order. Everybody is pretty much the same for the top 5-6 batters. It is the bottom of the order that makes the difference (in other words: the depth of players). Same between AAA and Major. |
| Dec. 17 JohnBob Men's 65 256 posts | We have played mostly Major over last 4 years but did get bumped to M+ for half the year in 2007 and I felt the biggest difference was throwing arms in the outfield. Some may think thats not a big deal but base hits that we got doubles in M were singles in M+,Which kept the double play in tack. Plus the M+ teams have more legitament HR hitters. Hitters that can hit out of ball park with wind blowing in and you see more miss hit balls going over fence in M+. |
| Dec. 17 barrym 158 posts | That's true especially with the artifical turf. The ball gets to the outfeild faster and keeping the double play alive can save you alot of runs. |
| Dec. 17 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | over all better talented players in M+ 1-10.M would be like 1-7,AAA 1-5,AA 1-2,these would be players who could make M+ rosters if given the chance or chose to.but JMO. |

You can make up for less ability by throwing to the proper base, hitting for singles, look for people out of position, running the bases correctly,and take advantage of what the other team gives you. Homeruns are nice, but unless their in the last inning, your still done after scoring your 5. |

Along with Stever's comment, the biggest difference I see is ALL 10 hit in M+ (and hit it hard) while M may have a few dinkers or opposite field hitters. At my age now (60s) there are NO teams that dominate with the Home Run. I have played M+ and M in the 60s and we rarely use up our allotment of home runs. Now that we are an older 60 team, if we get crazy we might hit 5 in a game! |
| Dec. 18 Jawood Men's 50 943 posts | Hardly any difference to warrant separate divisions, except for some more power. If you limit their homeruns there is no difference. This is why Major and Major-plus should be combined. |
| Dec. 22 jimjoes-gman Men's 55 80 posts | I would venture to say that a large majority of Major Plus players did it well when they young & they can still do it well...Where as,many aa,aaa & some majors happen to be in good shape.There are hundreds of former good softball players,over 50, that do not play any more,simply for lots of reasons.But I will bet that their current health status & because of that they have a lack of desire to get back in shape or they feel like they are too far gone to attempt to play again is the main culprit.Coming in second place would be the family thing & after that would be the work thing....I say that because in my city during the 70's & 80's we had a pro team & a couple of ASA Major champ teams,along with a host of other B,C&D champs.Very few of those guys are playing senior today.I have talked many times with guys from various parts of the nation & they say the same thing about their home towns former players.....So guys give yourself a pat on the back and Merry Christmas. |
| Dec. 22 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | I thought there were some very good points here, and it was best said by Mad Dog who hit it on the nose. After playing in the Majors the past 2 years, Mad Dog is right. Major Plus teams/players can say what they want, but it is a fact that most Major teams, especially after the recent big movement the past 2 years to bump many AAA teams into the Major division, that Major teams are mostly comprised of only half ligimate Major players(if that many) and the balance are mostly AAA players. Major Plus teams are mostly comprised of all Major players and usually no AAA players. This is not considering the home run issues, or teams already in the wrong divisions, because some teams slip through the cracks. I just cannot imagine how this is possible. LOL! I know why Major Plus teams want to combine Major and Major Plus, but it just will not happen, home run limits or not. You can argue, discuss, but it will not happen. Just like AAA and AA will not be made one division. There is just too much of a difference. I have played on or against every division, and it's good the way it is, despite some teams that are in the wrong divisions. Teams and players complain about teams in the wrong divisions(including myself), but this is going to happen, even in the best controlled situations. It will eventually correct itself regarding most of those teams. Since this will not happen, I am seeing the reverse situation happening. The main issue for Major Plus teams/players is that they need more teams to play, and they are right. For those of you that have not figured it out, there have been too many teams from Major Plus status petitioning to be moved back to the Major division and getting approved and teams that should be in the Major Plus division, not getting moved up. I watched some of these moved down teams, go play an average Major team and effortlessly defeat them, or appear to not try too hard to keep it close, so they will not be bumped back up. | Dec. 22 Jawood Men's 50 943 posts | Even though I believe we are a Major team power-wise, it makes no difference to us that we are classified as Major-plus or Major, we will play whatever. What we can't stand is paying $500 for a 2 or 3 team tournament. |
