I have a question for all those senior softball fans out there?..When should a player go up to the next age division? hOW DO MOST PLAYERS MAKE THAT DECISION?

I would say when you can't compete in the age bracket your playing now.....move on up. Age catches up to all of us, so have fun while you can at any age.
Good Luck to you.

Imo it all depends on the teams in you geographical area. I play on a 60 M+ team based in Fl and I also play on a 50 M team with most of the guys living close to me here in Ga.
Check with me when I reach 65 and I may have a different answer ;).

I plan to move up to 65s M+ next year when I am of age; I still plan to play 60M and some 50 AAA. I feel the time to move up is when you are in the "young" group coming in. I delayed moving to 55 by a year and stayed in the 50s. I won't do that again. Y'all going to Phoenix?

I've been an older guy on a younger team—not a bad idea if you are in shape and bring some value to the team. At one point, I was 15-20 years older than all the young pups on my team! Ask mad dog about that.

In senior ball, I have had better results when I move up to be one of the younger players in a different age group. I am more valuable as a courtesy runner, for example, and have more stamina to play every inning in a tournament.

But a lot depends upon whom you are playing with. If you like the guys on your team, and can hold your own, lots of guys like to stay with buddies.

There are good ideas and comments in the prev posts.
My reason to move up and a lot of friends that play is "If you move up to the new age division when first eligible YOU are at the top of your game for that division. It is fun to know and play at a high level (or so it seems as those around you are not as fast or throw as far as those you played against last year).
Usely you will know several guys on the new team, or some of your current buddies may join with others to form a new team.
Have fun, and play as much as possible.

Mr. Manassas-great question. Our Desperado team was 50AAA until this year despite 2/3 of the team being over 55. We stayed at 50 because of the 'family effect'-we are a close knit team. However, this year we lost a couple of the 50's guys and knew we could not compete at 50 anymore and made the jump to 55AAA with the 12 guys on our roster over 55. We left 5 behind. We had to merge with a team from Las Cruces to get enough players, but the results have been stunning for us. We won Reno and have done well so far. There is a big difference between 50 and 55. As a team we moved up late (several of us wanted to compete in 55 BEFORE we turned 60). Individually, it has to happen in your heart. You have to know when it is time to move up. We all love to say-'Yeah, I'm 58 and still competing with the 50's'. Go with your gut!

Ken, Defense played an important part in that tourney. We played good and horrible at times. ASA bats OK but the balls could have been better. Harry

Thanks Mr M, I feel very fortunate to still be able to play.
Speaking of older guys, there are a couple on The Wild Bunch that are in their late 60's that can throw, run, field and hit like most 50's!

Our 60 team did great, going undefeated until Sunday morning when Turn Two destroyed us. We then lost the next game to Omen.
We learned that we needed extra outfielders in the 110 degree heat.
Congrats to Turn Two.
