Dec. 31 ShaneV Men's 55 393 posts | Something else I've noticed about threads recently - the current population seldom gets very far off the original topic of a thread, and many of the threads are able to go on at length. Used to be much diversion and other stuff that would kill the spirit of a thread and it would die way before its time. At least current evidence seems to indicate this. Many great topics and discussions these days, a welcome change. I would like to say, in honor of Joe and Gary C, let us not get lazy and forget that we must always stand up for what we believe where senior softball is concerned, and always in a civil manner. Let us not become complacent and expect others to do everything for us. Let's each and every one of us be willing to do something to help our senior league organizers, senior tournament directors and SSUSA/SPA/etc. They work hard, mostly for you, but also for themselves, and they can always use your help and support. They strive to create exactly the product you wish to purchase and you (teams and players) grant them success only by your support. Successful events depend more on you than on them. Continue to tell them what you want, understand that they cannot grant every request but that they will work for the desires of the majority. Without you they will not succeed and you will not find the product you're looking for - more teams, more tournaments and more opportunities. If all you can do is enter and attend, ok. But really, every chance you get to speak well of your league, local tournament or national organization to others, you're helping the organization and you're helping yourself. We can drag it down or we can build it up. Rant, rant, rant, sorry... ShaneV |

Jan. 4 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | yes to all shane,i do think joey got it started more than gary, but he wouldn't let go b/c of it tho,but hey he did volunteer to leave the board if joey did, which he would never answer to.all gary did was ask a simple question about a what if situation(using bats other than senior ones for a tourney). i try to tell every senior i see around here to try and build our league here in tyler.prol is many don't want to drive the 30-50 miles to go play 50 minutes(all our P&R will allow for games here, all div)so actually 40 with an open inning.they also think there is not enough comp to play,a lot still play with the kids, but hey i keep trying to get them out there. |
Jan. 17 ShaneV Men's 55 393 posts | To those who are at the mercy of city, county and parks run leagues (and tournaments): Look into taking control. If there is any slack at your local facilities the owner would like to fill the space. If a new facility is developed in your area, or rebuilt or changes hands, contact the people in control early and express your desire to rent facilities and run your own senior leagues (and tournaments). It is a challenge to get started but after a year or two, it begins to run itself. You may be able to choose your rules and umpires and format and schedule, and best of all cut out the middleman who always expects a cut, bringing the price down, good for everybody. And if somebody asks you to help or support their efforts to make things better for you and senior league, do whatever you can. ShaneV |
