| April 23 Michigan Vet Men's 65 255 posts | Well it finally got warm in Michigan, 70 degrees but windy. Went down to the local school and set up my just bought batting tee. Hit my 28 oz balanced reebock Legend and my 28 oz balanced GBA (2 piece). The GBA seems a little heavier but its balance point is 13.75 inches from endcap. The Reebocks balance point is 14.5 inches fron endcap. This might be the reason it feels heavier. Used Worth Gold Dot balls (I think they are 375/40 but not sure). This is the ball USSSA used last year in tournaments. Well let me say it took awile to get used to hitting off a tee, I finally found the right height for me. Winds were high going from right to left. I am 60 year old 6 ft 235 lb lefty. GBA (balanced) This bat has maybe 150 swings on it (used in Florida). Bat seems very solid but not alot of flex. Hit many good line drives but could not get up in air. Line drives were lazers. Th farthest I hit a ball was 290. Bat needs more breakin time I think to get to its full potential. Bat looks good, no cracks, no paint chipping just looks like its brand new. Reebock Legend (balanced) This bat has maybe 120 swings on it (again used in Florida). What a difference!! Bat hits LAZERS and Great distance, hit a couple 340 and 330. Also hit 4 about 300 - 310. Bat has a great feel with great POP. Bat looks great just dirt on barrel. No stress cracks or paint chips. I think this bat is my new gamer. In conclusion the Reebock is good to go after about 150 swins, The GBA needs much more break in time but is a good solid bat |
| April 24 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Thanks for the info Chuck. Has been getting warmer in the Southwest. Seeing more Melee's being used and power shots coming off the bats. I think you will find that your bat will perform even better as your weather warms into the 80's. Ed Andrews |

| April 25 MurrayW Men's 65 221 posts | I am recovering from knee replacement surgery that I had done on 12/07/2010. I got a 26oz balanced Reebok on 4/14/2011. I swung it 3 times in a tournament on 4/16/2011. This was my first time hitting since my knee surgery and 2 of the 3 swings were pretty weak popups. The temperature was in the low 80's and we were using 375/44 core balls. On 4/23/2011 I took batting practice in 85 degree weather using 375/44 core balls. After the first round (about 40 balls) I noticed a crack on the barrel. The reason that I mentioned my knee surgery is because I am nowhere close to 100% and should not be able to crack a new bat with 40 swings. I contacted the Reebok rep whom I purchased the bat and he gave me the Reebok address to send the bat for them to evaluate and see if they would replace it. This evaluation process is supposed to take 30-45 days. Needless to say, I am not impressed with the durability of my bat and the length of time until I can expect a replacement (if they allow it). | April 25 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Murray: I hope you continue to heal from your surgery. If your situation is proven to be accurate, your bat will be replaced. Patience is part of the equation as the demand for the Melee is still ongoing. Players in the West and Southwest are raving about the Melee and I have seen smaller guys hit the snot out of the ball with this bat. Contact your rep as I think he will do his best to help you. |
| April 25 MurrayW Men's 65 221 posts | Surf88...I did contact my rep and he is the one that gave me the bat return address. I sent it out this morning. The frustrating thing is the 30-45 day wait. I have already been waiting 4 1/2 months until my knee started feeling like I could start trying to play again then to have my bat I just bought break basically the first time I tried it was disappointing. I am taking batting pratice, started slow getting better every time out,I cant run yet but I can jog, I work my knee everyday, streaching, bike ridding it gets very stiff and some pain. I am at 6 months now have been told by a few friends who are playing that it will take a year to get to where I want to be, DJ |

| April 27 MurrayW Men's 65 221 posts | DJ, As you can see from my earlier post I just started batting practice and DH'd in two games a couple of weeks ago. Everything that I have heard is that it will take a year until it is fully healed. If I could just make the swelling go away I would be happy...that's what is limiting my range of motion. I felt like I really made a lot of progress the first 2 months after surgery but since then it has been very slow and I feel like I am almost stuck at the same level. I finally decided not to wait until it was perfect to try to play again. The slow jog down to first base after I hit the ball (I can't call it running!) was weird. It felt like I was running with a 10 pound weight attached to my knee. But it did feel a lot better than before the surgery where it was bone-on-bone and very painful trying to run. | April 27 dj 32 posts | Murray, the first 2-3 months were better for me also, the progress is very slow, I play on a thurs league 2 games, I catch the bending is very helpful for me. The 6 month mark will make a big difference for you, it was for me. Last week I could only get about 200 feet, today I hit one to the fence at 310' on 2 short hops, it is better than bone on bone Good luck to you also keep working, some day we will play again DJ |

I have been really good on my PT and am probably in better shape than I have been in 5 years. Just need the time part to hurry up! I used a teammate's 26oz end loaded Reebok bat this weekend for batting practice and I really liked it. I took my first 40 swings using a red Miken ultra2 and probably hit about 15-20 over a 300ft fence. The second round I used the Reebok and because I was more tired, I did not hit as consistently with the Reebok as I did with the Miken, but when I did connect, the ball traveled 20-30 ft farther than with the Miken. The Miken was fairly new and not really broken in yet. I probably hit 10-15 out the second round. So my swing is getting there, I just need to get the "running/jogging" to come around. | May 2 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Don't hit too much at one time early on. I tried to come back too soon and actually hindered my swinging progress and my healing progress.
