June 14, 2006 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | NSA Las Vegas 100 degrees with a strong wind blowing in... Unusually challenging conditions for playing anything outdoors, except maybe kit flying. Congratulations to the California Thunder for their competitiveness and sportsmanship last weekend in the major plus 50 and over championship. Their captain, Steve Owens, had to go to the hospital before we even played a game with a 7 stitch gash below his eye from an bad hopped ground ball in practice. Who hit that ball any way? The umpire was a tall blond woman who did a terrific job. I'm sorry more teams didn't attend and I'm not sure why but they gave us 12 rings for free and set us up for a fine summer of 2006 with a win in our first National of the year. Playing with Don Klatterbaugh and spending time with him and his lovely wife were definitely the highlight of the weekend for me. I heard so much about him as we all have and I'll tell you even up close and personal they are both wonderful people and he's the best senior hitter in the nation, no doubt about it, as well as an unselfish and terrific teammate, too. Thanks again, Klatter for leading us to the promised land and hope you can make it to Salem for the USSSA. Kelly's is the best senior softball team I've ever played on and with Denny Jones joining us in Salem I'm already looking forward to having a crack at the USSSA title. Thanks again to Mike Kelly and Leonore, Cindi and Bam Bam for supporting and helping us through it all. And a big thanks to all my teammates for stepping up and handing me bragging rights in my home state of California. Einstein |
June 15, 2006 xdog 5 posts | Hey Einstein, tell us more. How many teams entered? Did they have seperate divisions for AAA, major, and major plus, or did they group all together in one bracket for one ring? From your post, it appears the Thunder took second while Kellys took gold? If all rated teams played for one ring, how did they equalize when AAA played major+, etc? Thanks in advance X |
June 15, 2006 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Where was this played? I live in Vegas and wasn't much talk about this. If you played last weekend I played in a tournament at Arroyo in Henderson and the weather and wind seemed fine, probably living in Vegas you get used to it though. Congratulations. |
June 15, 2006 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | Einstein- You playing with Mike Kelly's team this year? What was the NSA National; I thought the NSA National was in Rock Hill later this summer... Anyway, congrats. I spoke with Clatta while he was on his way to BP last Thursday evening before heading out West. You are certainly correct in that, even at 60 this year, he is still the best Senior hitter in the country. Those of us who have played with Don over the years know what a class act and hard worker he is in the game of softball. Bonnie, his wife, is an equally class act. Now that they've both retired, she is with him at almost all the tourneys. We look forward to seeing everyone in Plano. Good luck the rest of the year. June 16, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | DoubleL10 Your sure right about both Don and Bonnie. Both a class act. Bonnie was with us in Las Vegas and i knowing her experience around great teasm and softball in general asked ofr her advice a few times about players and changes. Clatter was amazing. Wind blowing in at least 25 mph on saturday from center and he still hit 3 out using his stock PST. Your also right that the Super NSA World is later this year in Rock Hill. This was the NSA Western Worlds but somehow Marty got it to be a ring event in the hopes of drawing more teams which never happened. We swung all Worth bats and did great but it looks like the majority of teams will be heading to the Ultra 2 events this year with the 1 exception being the Huntsman games. Good talking to you LL and have a good one. MK39 |
June 16, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | Gary19 Hey Gary19, How ya been doing. The NSA has a 1 player exception for there events along with bordering states so Don Clatterbaugh from Va. was my 1 player exception. USSSA this year for Major Plus is open Regions, Huntsman is open regions and i believe the rest are states and bordeing states and they might look at the 1 excemption player for next year = maybe??? Is your team going to Palm Springs this year, if yes, i look forward to meeting you there. Have a god one. MK39 |
June 16, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | Gary19 Sorry, missed part of your question. I based Kelly's out of Nevada for this NSA event by having the Majority of players come from the state of Nevada to be able to go into Utah for a player as well as back into Ca. Thanks MK39 |
June 16, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | Gary19 I did not take it wrong at all. I know that with so many different Senior Softball associations and so many with different rules that it is very confusing at times. I do all i can just to keep up with it and make sure our team is within the rules. Are ya going to Palm Springs or to the USSSA in Salem Oregon. Let me know Have a good one MK39 |

June 18, 2006 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Guys, I just got off the NSA website looking up the tournament we just won and it calls it "Senior World Series". I don't claim to know anything else about it or why it wasn't adverstised better, but the Old A's Miken from California won their division, too. Congratulations Gary Tryhorn and all my old, and I do mean old teammates as they came back from having lost the first game in double elimination winning 3 in a row on Sunday. |
June 19, 2006 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | NSA scheduled an East and West World Series. They have done the West ones for the last couple of years in St. George, and this was the first one in Las Vegas. It is not near as established of a tournament as the East one. We had flyers for both at the park here. I wish that we were going to the East. Everyone tells me that Rock Hill is a beautiful complex. I do not think that they are going to change their bat policies; so I do not look for numbers to grow much. If anyone in Indiana needs to get in touch with the state director here, please let me know. You are supposed to enter through your respective state director. |
