July 18 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Batters Box Dimensions/Layout I'm playing in a local league end of the season tournament and the recreation director has been chalking the boxes a bit different from what we have seen. Perhaps you can guide me to some diagrams/site locations, etc. We use a mat and the back chalk lines are only 4-6 inches behind the back of the mat. The front chalk lines go way forward toward the pitcher. Am I crazy or does this seem a bit off the accuracy chart to you? Thanks Ed Andrews ed@ewandrews.com (970) 729-3145 |
July 18 paul0784 Men's 60 218 posts | r The batter's box when the mat wasn't there was four feet from the point where the plate starts to taper back and three feet back from same point making a 7' batter's box. So, yes you did have more room in front than back. Not real sure with the mat in place? Can't imagine it would be different? |

July 18 BruceAZ Men's 70 155 posts | r Ed, SSUSA has their Rule book on this website. Go to the top of the page, Tournaments Tab, then Rules. Go to Page 103. Paul was right, the box is 7ft x 3ft. With the Mat, the back line of the Batter's box should be 10 inches behind the Mat and the front line should be 39.5 inches in front of Home Plate/Mat. So yes, the Batter's Box lined out in your league was wrong. It's wrong in most leagues I play in. Bruce |
