My friend Mike Robbins just bought a 454 as well. I called and asked him about it and he echoed our thoughts. He is trying to sell it !!!

I try to form my own opinion on durability after reading as many reviews as I can find and then trying the bats myself. Once I get an "idea" of the general durability and "break in" I always graduate my bats to the "gamer" bag after a few dozen ( Ultra2 ) or a few hundred ( Combat Centenarian ). The New Orange Worth's seemed to have a reputation of longer break in and higher durability than the previous edition and in my experience the 27.5's bore that out.....so far. It took at least 60 swings for both to get that distinctive "crack" that the Ultra's make from start to finish. The 28.5's however, seem to be quickly gaining a reputation as Extremely hot out of the wrapper ( mine was ) but no longevity. At the FHC tourney I spoke to several players about the Worth XXX after mine broke. One gentleman said that his team had used nine or ten over the previous four weeks and ALL of the 28.5's had broke before they reached 100 cuts ! In contrast the 26.5 and 27.5's had both lasted significantly longer.

I have TWO 27.5 's and both have 250 cuts on them now with NO obvious signs of fatigue. I bought a 28.5 for a tourney after I had left my equipment bag in Alabama. This bat broke in less than 45 swings !!!! Go figure !

We just took 100 cuts on a 27 and to be completely frank, it was BAD! Its by FAR the worst senior bat any of us had ever tried ! In our case, three people used the bat for around 30 cuts a piece. NO ONE hit the ball out of the 310 feet park ! All three of us commonly hit at least 50% of our balls out with Mikens.

Are you talking the 2010 model XXX or the 2011 mad dog ? I KNOW that the 2010 had issues, supposedly caused by an over seas factory. But Ive not heard of the same issues with the 2012 which is why I bought them. Also convincing were the reviews online which overwhelmingly agree that durability is MUCH improved over the previous edition. The older model was green I believe and the newer is orange.

That's interesting 5tools. Mine certainly could pass for ASA bats for the first 50 swings but then, almost like magic, they wake right up ! Literally going from a dull "thop" and poor distance to a distinct "CRACK" and very good distance in the next 30 swings.

I have 2 27.5's and one 28.5 and they all came alive the same way.

The Mikens of course were hot right out of the wrappers

Agreed Bob, Im really curious now to find out how durable the Worth XXX is. Im currently swinging a 27.5 and a 28.5 but since I was trying to get an idea of the limits of the Combat I haven't been using them much. Early on Ive been VERY happy with the distance and pop of the 27.5.

FINAL UPDATE!!!!

I hit with the Combat last night. Temps were around 68-71

The bat was very very HOT last night for whatever reason. ( Probably because it was near its lifespan ) I asked a friend to swing it after he had used his Ultra SE for twenty cuts. His shots were going just as far with the Combat. I MUST admit, most of the balls we hit tonight were averaging much farther than they had ever before with this bat.

I carefully counted every swing and 104 cuts into the night and just having a real blast swinging this bat...she gave up the ghost! It wasn't a crack that started small and grew but one enormous gash that went 3/4 of the way around the sweet spot of the barrel!!!

SO there you have it. My experience with the Combat Centenarian EL 28. After 780 cuts it broke in a big way. She had serious POP there over the final 70 or so swings. I am very impressed with its durability but not so much with its pop early on.

Just a small update to the endurance of the Combat Centenarian EL 28

Weather here in Jax allowed us to hit twice this week. Thursday and Sunday. Temps hovered in the low to mid 60's

Using the Combat exclusively on both days I added 185 cuts. This bat STILL has NO rattle inside and NO obvious signs of impending breakage.

The small sweet spot seems to have gotten a little larger but it could simply be " one of those days " when one simply hits the ball better.

There was still no appreciable increase in average distance of well hit balls which stayed in the 330-350 feet range.

I did NOT hit any other bats for comparison because the temps were low enough to make me nervous with those.

The Combat now has 676 cuts.....

I play 50's league ball and Florida half century

6'2" and 220 pounds. I would NOT consider myself a power hitter. Hitting the rare 400 footer in an enclosed baseball field where there is seldom any wind at all,is not a eye popping feat with a U2.I have had U2's last almost 170 cuts and one which didn't reach 80. I have owned five. Two I am still swinging. Without hesitation I can tell you that for me, the U2 balanced is the best bat I have used for overall distance but the Orange Worth XXX is right there with it. AND two of the Worth's I now have boast 260+ cuts in games and BP. I saw a review on UTube with Dave from seniorbatreviews.com which claims the XXX that he tested has over 600 cuts. He and his partner swing much harder than I do.

My experience is obviously limited but I have NEVER heard of a U2 lasting that long with someone who can hit it hard enough to go 340. Consider yourself fortunate and lucky if it goes 250. If the XXX's perform like they have been AND last 500+ cuts I am switching to Worth. Just my two cents.

Im going to hit the 28 Combat in BP until it breaks ( This one was given to me by a friend who just up and quit one day. It was still in the wrapper ) I'll let you know when that occurs.
