Truthfully, sometimes you just want to cry. You can see the light come on in the guys eyes when they "GET IT". The realize they can do this. Thanks for offering stuff to help them. I will make sure you all get a signed poster or a shirt or something from us. I will take some video with my phone and upload it so you guys can see these wonderful men and women playing a game we all take for granted....Much Love

Alan all I can say thanks for the advice and pointing out such a GREAT bat. I hit it this morning, about 50 balls. Farthest was 350 or so. SMOKING hot from the start. In the afternoon I took it to my Wounded Warriors PNW players and holy moly they knocked the heck out of it. One of our young soldiers sat in his wheelchair and hit the dang ball at least 200 ft. It was IMPRESSIVE! You're right. It does sound different to start but it kind of gets in the groove after awhile, and then it's lights out.
Also, thanks for the batting gloves. These guys can't afford this high class stuff...:)... so I usually buy them out of my own pocket. VA Hosp. doesn't spend money on REC stuff, so Me and my Wife kind of foot the bill. Don't get me wrong, we don't mind, just gets kind of expensive when gearing up for the upcoming season.
You should see the smile on their faces when we are able to get good stuff. It's nice to see them when it gets in to their brain that they can still play a game they loved as a kid. They absolutely come out of their shell and they become more of their old self again. Not a lot of whining or complaining from these guys. Love just hanging out with them. They have physical and sometimes mental impairments and I'm old and have both so we get along great..:)
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You make this old war horse proud.

thanks for your offer to help. It would be much appreciated by these men and women who have sacrificed so much to allow us to play a game. I honestly don't have a clue on how to go about a fund raising deal. But the equipment someone isn't using would be great! Maybe if someone wanted to sponsor something, they could buy something from Alan and he could forward it to us. I don't know...just thinking. Feel free to email me with your thoughts.

Discussion: Corky

My thinking is SSUSA didn't quite think this through far enough and what Corky gives back and does to our sport. Besides providing products to players and such, he is a source of information. He would help anyone if they had questions. He is probably one of the best good will ambassadors our sport has.
If this is about economics, this is poor thinking. Anaconda has to be paying SSUSA a tidy sum to take this business. It's almost a guaranteed income and customers base of sorts. Poor decision I would say....if asked....Looks like I will be buying my stuff online from now on. I don't think it will be from Anaconda. I already bought a bat from them last year and didn't get it. But they had no problem taking the money. Just a sad state.

Discussion: Sad state of affirs at Huntsman.

There are really several ways to check a bat. A compression tester is the best but after playing for a long time, and talking to a lot of bat mechanics, it's not as hard as you think. 1 is a visual inspection. When someone hits the ball over 400 ft and he's just an average guy with an average swing, look at the end cap. If it is not tight against the body of the bat, something is wrong. You would be surprised at how many guys put a different end cap on. Sometimes, the wrong color, wrong brand, and many other things. Another way is the sound. Most doctored bats just have a diff sound. Can't explain it, but you know. Ask your catcher, they usually are the first ones to know. Another is the weight. Especially the ones that did theirs themselves. Almost always the weight is WAY off. If a 30EL weithgs 27 or 28 and feels balanced now, sometings wrong. Thats only a few things to look for. They aren't hard to spot and are becoming more prevalent nowadays. Just check the internet. See how many guys are doing it. They wouldn't be there if they weren't making money at it.

Discussion: How did SSUSA decide which Division had teams shorted to four gg?

I for one, would welcome another senior division. It seems when you are the only game in town you kind of get comfortable being the king.

Discussion: Sad state of affirs at Huntsman.

sad state of affairs at Huntsman this year. Especially in mens softball. sandbagging to the extreme and a Director named Dan at Canyons who showed no interest in problems that arose. said"I don't have time for this". A team got ranked AA because the manager knew the Director. They had a retired professional BB player. First 2 at bats..he didn't hit 300 ft...he hit it 400 ft!...7 over the fence in one game in a class where they aren't supposed to hit it that far. This team is an open major in their own league. I feel sorry for the teams who had to play them.
Illegal bats, sandbagging teams, poor directorship, and REALLY poor seating choices. Myself, my team and the 7 other teams and countless players who came with us will not be coming back next year. Not money well spent if you play by the rules and others are allowed not to.

Gotta tell you Alan....this Ambush is the best bat I have ever had...It is absolutely amazing. I am on my 3rd one...thats not bad for me cause I tend to swing too hard anyway.....and I let everyone use it all the time. I bet this thing I have now has AT LEAST 2000 swings on it. Its about ready to go to bat heaven, but you can bet I will be getting another one.

Discussion: Anyone ever have a bat go dead?

Im on my 3rd Ambush. I just love this bat. The first 2 lasted as long as they could with several people using it on my team. But this last 1, was completely a screamer when we got it about 6 months ago. Now it just seems dead. No cracks, rattles, or anything else. Just wondering...thanks

Discussion: What do you think of pay to play players?

Lefty I think you missed the boat on this one....I meant a team owner, sponsor or whatever you want to call it pays his players to play. tourney fees, uniforms and such I can see but to pay players just for playing just doesn't seem right to me. And to snark players off other teams without even talking to his current manager or sponsor, is a back stabbing issue to me. But I guess when you own the association, anything is fair game.

And Swing?...I totally agree!

Discussion: What do you think of pay to play players?

up here in the pacific northwest it's hard to find quality players. But when you find them, ask them to play for your team, you always have to worry about the pay to play teams taking them. they don't come to the manager, or coach, they go directly to the player. The next thing you know they are telling you they are going to play for someone else. we work hard getting sponsors, under the premise, we have a good team, and yes 1 player can make a HUGE difference on how your team does. We work hard getting our uni's bought, tourney fees paid, and this kind of crap happens. We have 1 notorious team that has been a thorn in the sides of plenty teams up here. The players almost always end up leaving the team eventually because the guy is an a**, then the are restricted in playing major plus or sit out a year....I dont know....just pissed I guess after all that work.

Discussion: sometimes life just ain't fair

I spend 30 yrs of my life in the US Army chasing bad guys in some of the worse conditions and contaminated countries in the world. I think I can now retire and come home, play some ball, meet some new people not wearing OD Green and just enjoy life. Well things aren't happening that way.
Played ball in an absolute windy dust bowl this past weekend. felt good starting out...then the lungs starting burning. This doesn't look good. Came home, rested and thought I could play hard today. Got through 1 game pretty much til the last inning...started again...dang it...went to the Dr. only have 40% use of lungs right now...have to take a month off from playing...breathing exercises and some kind of treatment that I can't spell. THIS SUCKS!
I have a tourney in Medford in 2 weeks, told the Dr. you have 2 weeks to make me better because I'm playing no matter what. He said he understood, just to take it easy and have fun....take it easy?...I don't know how to take it easy playing the game I love. But I guess he understands...he is setting it up so I can get my treatments in Medford....woohoo!

Discussion: How can SSUSA possibly reclassify an established Major+ team

It amazes me that this is even a question...there are quite a few teams that should be moved up or down. IMO...It's not surprising...especially in the M and M+...Yeagers shouold be a M+..Ruth's should be a M+...why don't they get moved up?...couple of reasons....1 is look who's teams they are...and there is a very limited number of M and M+ teams.....you have to keep them where they can still play...sometimes it doesn't seem fair...but I guess if it's too bad, we can look for another orginization to play thru....IMO
