Thanks Bruce. You guys swing the bat very well. Mr Stokes seems to be a guy you would love to be on a team with. Has something going on all the time, but knows how to handle the stick! Enjoyed our game.

I play with the Southern Hurricanes, we had a great time. Great day for softball, thanks Steve for getting this together in spite of all the weather. Would like to mentnion the gentlemen who pitched against us for the Southern Elite. Besides being a great sport and cut up, kept us rolling the entire game, he can flat hit a softball. Always enjoy playing against him and listening! lol!!

Hey Greg, my name is Vance Herrin, play for a 50 AAA team out of Mississippi, Southern Hurricanes. Could you give me a little more information on your tournament? How much is entry fee? What will be the HR limits? Thanks! I think I've got our bunch talked into making the trip.

If anybody is looking for a team to play on, should give these guys a look. We, Southern Hurricanes, played against them several times. They are a very competitive team, that's also made up of great guys. Very good sports. Can't go wrong with these guys.

Oh, and you can't beat the price for a Senior tournament and get to swing away (5 HR's, then walks).

We played in the tournament last year and will be playing this year as well. Great warmup tournament. Good competition, smooth running tournament.

I guess I've been lucky. I've had 2 pair of Boombah's and had no problems. Very lightweight and good traction. Just bought another pair.

Hey Southpaw, I'm sure the Southern Hurricanes would be interested in playing. Just keep us in mind.

Home Plate, I have no doubt that you are right about those guys. However, there aren't a lot of "those" guys walking around. If you read what I posted, I agreed that there were a few guys that could do that, just not 100's.

If you don't think the composite bats have made softball a different animal, you are kidding yourself. "Back in the day" you knew who the guys were that had Home Run potential. These days any 130 lb kid can yank the ball out of the park every time he steps up. I would like to see "100's" of senior softball players that could hit home runs in a 300 foot park with a wooden bat. There may be a few, but not hundreds. Doesn't take away from any HOF guys. They got there because they are the best at what they do. They play the same game that everybody else plays, just do it better.

Rain, rain and more rain. The AAA division didn't get to finish. Had the misfortune (LOL!) of playing the 2 Major plus teams for our pool games. Lucky us, we're a AAA team. Both Adiktiv and TSC swing the bat extremely well. TSC cut them, 31-11 in a game that I saw. When we left in the rain, they were playing again with a very close game. I think Doc C's and not sure who were playing when we left on the Major side as well.

I agree BruceinGa. It's also a sign of people not taking care of infields like they should. I've seen some nice complexes with terrace row infields. With the bats being used in this day and age, no one in the infield should be comfortable.

I'm not a pitcher, have great respect for the guys that will stand that close to a hitter. I'm not gonna do it. In reading your post, modi, the main point you seem to make is separating true home run hitters from pretenders. While I totally agree with you that the balls and bats used today give everyone home run power, I don't think changing the ball is going to get the ball away from the pitcher. Moreover, if a guy can't hit it out of the park, maybe there's now a greater chance of hitting back at the pitcher.

Discussion: Southpaw's Birmingham tourney

Thoroughly enjoyed the tournament this past weekend. Everyone was as expected in Senior tournaments, very respectful and appreciative of other teams. Southpaw, we (Southern Hurricanes) don't have anything on the schedule for April, so I'm sure we would play in an April tournament. Thanks again for having us.

Hey Southpaw, weather is looking great for your tournament. Hard to believe as cold as it was this morning, that in 2 days it will be close to 70 degrees. I'll definately take it.
