I would vote to get rid of the senior bats before adding an extra fielder and bastardizing the game anymore. If players took defense a bit more seriously maybe the scores wouldn't be so bad. Most teams can barely field 10 guys committed to playing quality defense, how is adding another marginal fielder going to change anything.
If u add an 11th fielder let's widen the field and have a Canadian football type field. Even better whoever is in the lineup after the 11th batter has to play the field. This is absolutely laughable. I need a beer. Go Cardinals!!!

This is a team of 15 with only 4 players that have played SSUSA tourneys. Many of the new guys have been playing in r senior league for a year and playing USSSA league and tourneys. We have 3 players new to senior ball. We acutally want to start AAA and move up. We have only played 4 games together in league. We have had 7 different players hit HR's at some time during the first 4 league games. We r trying to develop that all mighty chemistry. We have only won 1 game loosing to veteran senior teams. So their must be something to that chemistry thing.

Do all newly formed teams still have to register AAA?

Mario: You are correct about P90X. I have been doing it for many years. As the injuries and surgeries piled up i had to scale down my versions of it. I highly recommend this workout. I must also add as i have told many people over the years do not attempt to stay with the people in the video right away. People tend to get frustrated if they cannot do a workout at a high level when starting. You must understand your limitations when starting a program.
Bike riding and ellipticals are probably the best cardio workouts with the least amount of impact on the knees.

Discussion: What does it take to be a Major player?

When rating players I believe it is more about physical skills. Those skills can be observed objectively. The intangibles such as leadership, chemistry etc. are far tougher to evaluate and are subject to various peoples perceptions of what those intangibles are. The one thing about these skills is they are mostly offensive skills with the exception of throwing. But in senior ball I see defense looked at as a non-factor. In many of the discussions a players status is usually based on their ability to hit for avg or power. While playing catcher, EH or pitcher and having people run for them. As much as I like hitting a softball, I enjoy stealing hits and keeping runners from advancing due to my arm and speed to the ball.

Some intangibles I would like added ability to play hurt. Ability to play effectively in 4-5 consecutive games in the OF and still willing to run for others while batting. These are other intangibles that we could add so I can be considered a major player. lmao

Discussion: One pitch

I've played 1 pitch in both USSSA and SSUSA tourneys. these were done due to rain delays and tring to catch up or get games in with impending rains on the way. In SSUSA tourneys playing 50AAA in Georgetown and Pinetop they did one thing that was different, when we went to 1 pitch. They had teams play 2 innings in the field and bat before changing. You wold get your 5 runs or 3 outs, then start the next at bat. Only changing 3-4 times during the course of the game. Cut down on time and wasn't physically difficult for me.
I did like the idea that as a team we kept the you strikeout your still buying the beer.

If anyone thinks 1 pitch is bad in the Whole Enchilada tourney in Las Cruces several years ago. The rains were so bad the teams still in it had to do a coin flip to see who won. Now that sucked if you were undefeated and lost the title to a team from the losers bracket.

Discussion: Bat issue

As the sayings goes "Watch out what you wish for." Seniors wanted hot bats and had dreams of hitting like they did at age 20. You got it a $200 no warranty bat that breaks in less than a yr. Seniors keep complaining about how often the Mikens break and there is no warranty. Well you asked for it and you keep buying them so you get what you deserve. I gave up on Ultras for good a year ago. I found several USSSA bats w/ 400 day warranties that hit the ball over 305 ft. That's all I need for a HR. Keep your ohh and ahh 350-400 ft HR. Like I've said before depending on where you play 305 will get you a HR. maybe, no ohh or ahh moment but it still counts as a HR in the book.

I recommend the new Easton Stealth 100, Easton Stealth 98, Worth Resmondo WSE. these bats can all be had for $225-$249 if you look around. NIW w/ a warranty. Most of you bangers will still get your ohh and ahh moments. The rest of youi line drive hitters will not be disappointed. These bats hit BB's through the IF. My son weighs 130lbs tried my Stealth 100 in a USSSA game last week and hit a ball of the fence at 300 ft. I did contemplate having the bat tested for being shaved and my son tested for steriods. lol

Stay thirsty my friends.

I am sure Vegas caused alot of personal internal turmoil to some players. One of my biggest issues with teammates was their lack of commitment to the overall picture, winning a championship. I could not believe the lack of commitment or responsiblity of some of these 50 plus players. As grown men we must and should accept our weaknesses. Stop deceiving your teammates with ur false sense of responsibility and commitment. I have no problem letting guys know sorry I love you guys but I could not help you in Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas etc. I would not be focused on the games.

Webbie my daughter and grandson moved to rio rancho last week. He is the one whose team won 7u coach pitch state and world series. If u know any one that has any info on a competitive 8u AAA or 7U AAA team in the rio rancho area could u lmk. u can email me at bostonnm@yahoo.com w/ info.
Must admit even though I love playing with my son in usssa. We played a dblhdr last nite. I also played a dblehdr today with the seniors. I am stuck with these dilemnas, expect the kids to performed based on their youth speed, power, agilty, arm strength, nite vision. Then I expect the older guys to perform based on their experience and maturity. when either doesn't i get frustrated. Not that I don't make mistakes but is it too much to have different expectations for people based on their age.

What about SSUSA allowing the top 3 teams into next years Worlds no entrance fee. That would be something better than what you got. The sad part is most of these teams will go right back to Vegas next year and the same stuff will happen and the beat goes on.

This is why I will not go to Vegas for softball. I Love Vegas too much. Softball would be secondary. God bless those significant others that hang out at a ball park for all those hours.

Aztomic: Not the same just have some similar views at times. I live in NM but am originally and always will be a Bostonian. Never played softball in the good old days some of you guys talk about. Was too busy with baseball and basketball. Softball was seen as a game for old fat guys. lol I have definitely changed my opinion on that one. I played baseball up until age 50. I do play senior tourneys, senior league and usssa leagues. But don't do as many senior tourneys as years past. Play more USSSA tourneys I now get to play on the same team as my son. Even better we play beside each other in the OF. Also, so G19 and I won't ever be confused I'm more of a 42/32. lol

Discussion: Is SSUSA trying to go too far?

Aztomc: Ur out of line saying someone doesn't have a right to speak about senior tourneys since they do not play. That is paramount to saying you have no right to speak out about education because you are not a teacher or you do not have kids in school. I am very outspoken politically on blogs and in newspapers with letters to the editors. I am not a politician and never have been so does that exempt me from an informed opinion or just an opinion on issues. I think not.

We all know Gary19 can be a pain in the astericks. But it did appear from the many posts that SSUSA was over reaching with 400 plus teams in Vegas. No one denies that Dave and fran work hard and do their best to give players a quality tourney/tourneys. But, it is possible that the Vegas venue was not conducive to handle the 400 plus teams with quality fields, umpires and playing times. There is no way seniors should be playing past 9 or 10pm forget about midnight and 1am. I play in 24 hr tourneys and it is tough between 12 and 5am but I go knowing what i'm getting myself into. Plus in my defense I can always turn to a 20 yr old and say sub. Seniors don't have that option.

A couple of guys stated they had a great time w/ teammates and had good games. But, seniors say that about playing in Phoenix, Dalton, Timbukto etc. There are players that don't care where they play as long as they are with there buddies. So my impression is Vegas wouldn't make a difference for these guys.

I hope I have a right to say all this since I only play about 3 senior tourneys a year and play in an 18 team senior league. I as not in Vegas and I stated in another discussion about softball tourneys and Vegas. it is just not a place i am going to spend money to travel to to play softball.

Congrats to all the teams that finished top 3. Quite an accomplishment with the size of some of the divisions.

I've always felt a 5 game gaurantee was to much. If guys love the game as much as they say on this board why do they need a 4-5 game gaurantee to show up. I just played this past weekend in the Whole Enchilada tourney in Las Cruces. It is a USSSA tourney and had 260 teams class C,D and E mens and women. There were 22 mens C, 85 mens D and 72 mens E. This is a 24 hr toureny dbl elimination. My point is that many teams for only 8 mens fields and dble elimination. Sounds to me like a true love of the game, no gaurantees. They had 40 on the waiting list. Although, I will say this the entrance fee was only $300 or $350.

The 4-3 count is a waste of time most batters take the first strike anyway. Go 3-2 with a courtesy & more guys will swing sooner in the count.

Another, thing that slows the senior game down and irritates me is the guys walking on and off the field. Please don't use the excuse we're older we need more time. I play OF in USSSA & I run in and out every inning. By the time u get to ur spot most of the time the batter is headed to the plate to hit. all u have to do is jog and it will save time. No need to socialize w/ the opposing team every inning. then guys complain they didn't get to play 7 innings.

Discussion: new format for worlds

What do you guys think of the new 2 weekend format separating the 50's and 55's. I only mention this because a player could play Worlds both 50's and 55's on the same weekend in the past. Now with the new format it is impossible unless you spend 10 days in Vegas. It works out fine for those doing 55's and 60's. Just some thoughts.

Discussion: Bases @ 70'

My concern in this discussion is the lack of concessions that were made by the various city entities in bringing millions of dollars to their community. The way I see it is we don't need Las Vegas they need us. Worlds was fine in Phoenix and if certain communities want to play hardball and not work with any variations in their scheduling screw them. Maybe, my approach isn't practical too many but after reading this post about the unwillingness of Clark County and N Las Vegas to accommodate SSUSA screw them. Just my 2 cents.

Discussion: Mercy Rule,

This is a tough one for me because I have never been an advocate of the mercy rule idea at any level. These rules were made so kids wouldn't feel bad about getting their posteriors handed to them. In my eyes, all it has done is foster a younger society of mediocre athletes and coaches. No need to worry about putting in any extra work because the opponent can only beat use by so much. Just like the rule where everyone makes the eam and everone gets a trophy.

Most of you guys must remember the days when we took our whippings and that was that. If you didn't like the feeling you worked harder at practice and on your own to get better. If the teams are in the same division all should be equal. I believe if we pay we should play the full time limit or 7 innings. Whether it is seniors or any other league for adults. We are grown men I don't need a mercy rule to keep me from feeling bad about getting my butt kicked. I got friends and a wife to do that for me. lol
