| March 26, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Just Wondering Steve: I was a helicopter technician with the 16th Air Cav @ Can Tho, VN & we now have our own website; U probably can do a search & find yours, if you have not already!!! LX50 |
| March 26, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Another Prayer Request We do not know Roger but the Columbus LX Team sends their prayers. We await in faith the future message of hearing how the operation was a "total success" & how he will soon be able to continue playing the game. Keep us posted!! LX50 |
| March 24, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Tired of breaking bats Big Mike: "should I switch to utrip bats?..." I cannot afford to buy any more SBats. I bought a New C Centanarian 30 oz; took about 150-200 BP swings rotating the barrel per suggestions on 7 year old balls (not waterlogged) in warm weather. Then I attended the NSA in Gadsden, Al where we hit the 52/275 & it got a 4" split in 8 swings. Everyone else I have spoken to has had excellent results w/this bat. I have 2 recommendations: If you can find an Original Velocite (I have owned 18, down to 2); they suit my swing, but are EXpensive. My 2nd suggestion is the Miken Maniac 585. I have owned a stock one since 2007; I swing a 30 oz & have pounded this bat forever in BP & it is a tank (have not been able to find another). These 2 are what I plan to use in SSB w/the only SBat I have left (an orignal ASA model U2). I can't spend $700+ a year. Good Luck LX50 |
| March 24, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Blood Clot ALERT!! Something that slipped my mind: Senior Moment; in 11.05 @ the Winter Ft. Myers Tourney; I took a swing & something popped behind the LKnee & I fell to the ground; then a silver dollar size red blood image showed up; figured it was the hamstring. I could not bend my leg w/o falling. Anyway: anyone who played with me in 05 could see that I ran (more like walked) very slow when I hit; my legs were going. The following year 11.06, I had another Lknee cleaning (orthoscopy); Now; I do not know if the hamstring & LKnee surgery had anything to do w/the BClot or not; but the Docs did not indicate that it was a possibility, since the BC came 2 years later. Logic: I would think that if I were inactive, driving or flying a lot, that I'd be more prone to BCs; had no history of BCs in my past genealogy. Still mysterious: I have never been a bad eater; hardly ever junk foods (on occasion); got a Turtle's metabolism (Hrate about 39-40 BPM); NO one can figure the reason for the BC. Thanks for the input; I hardly ever post, but wanted to give a headsup to anyone that may be feeling this sort of pain. Need to have it checked!! LX50 |
| March 24, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Blood Clot ALERT!! Taits: I went to ALL the specialists & NO one could give me any idea as to the origin of the clot. The Hematologist declared that he could find no problems. Seems U have + & - Proteins in the blood that keep clotting in check & ALL those were fine. I had a Venogram; where they enter the back of the knee & go up towards the groin area. The Hema Doc explained that there is a vein & artery that sort of cross each other at the upper front body area where the leg hinges at the hip & sometimes one can limit the other....but NO problem. HJ: This link explains it; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_saphenous_vein. The Great Saphenous Vein. It was called a Superficial not DVT; but this link explains more: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000199.htm No matter whether Super of DVT; I was put in the Hospital & was not able to move for hours; had to beg the Doc to let me have a bowel movement. It was explained to me that it could go to the lungs & cause severe complications. It is still a mystery!! LX50 |
| March 24, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Blood Clot ALERT!! Thanks Joe & Surf88: I had an injury & was not able to make Montgomery. Blood clots seem to be deceptive; you can easily push the thought aside & characterize the pain as a strain or old age; but if it is waking U up at night; there is something more serious. Not to B taken lightly!! LX 50 |
| March 23, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Blood Clot ALERT!! Maybe this can ALERT & help someone!!! 2008 I was 58 & in great shape; weighed 250; 6'3", was lifting weights; working on a ranch doing heavy work for 8-10 hours a day; no physical or medical problems; taking NO medications except a baby aspirin a day; NEVER on drugs or alcohol (except occasional Nyquil dosage); NO steroids or etc; NO prior physical problems except an appendectomy & LKnee surgery(1991)!! At night while sleeping my left calf would burn & wake me up several times. I brushed it off as overtraining; but it continued for 2 weeks; then one night I got up @ 2:30AM; watching TV; looked down & the vein in my inner left thigh looked like a RED RIVER. It bulged out about 3/16". Long story short: 11.08, had a blood clot; then another on 7.09 while on blood thinner. Went to every specialist from Hematologist to Heart to Sleep Apnea Doctors & NO one could find any link to the cause of the Clot. Stayed on Coumadin till 1.06.11. I hope this message ALERTS anyone that has these type symptoms to NOT delay & get it checked cause this is serious!!! LX 50 |
| March 10, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Oldest Senior Participant Steve: We all fall into that category. My main intention was to give HIGH Fives to these guys. I've been in it since 99; but I know there are some 70 & 80 teams; it would be great to know who has logged the most years in SSB Tourneys. Imagine someone in their 80's that has logged 30 years X 9(avg tourneys a year) X $300 (est) per tourney = $81,000.00 for the LOVE OF THE GAME & THE COMARADERIE!!! Awesome!!! STEVE: Injured reserve; will not be in Montgomery. LX50 |
| March 9, 2013 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Oldest Senior Participant Two things I do not think has been discussed: 1. Who is the Oldest Player (on the board or someone you know)that participates or has participated in SSB Tournaments? 2. What Player has logged the MOST consecutive years in SSB Tournaments. How many years? Thanks LX50 You cannot fool the man in the mirror |
| Dec. 27, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: survey Well: I have pushed for a Player Poll (been in the SSUSA since 99). IMO if I was not important enough to survey or poll in reference to the AAA HR or any other Rules, then I am not important enough to Poll in reference to the 1 & 1!!! Looks like a PP could be launched just as easy as the 1 & 1 count survey was executed!! Tater50 Columbus LX You Cannot Fool the Man in the Mirror |

| Aug. 29, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Isaac Been thinking about my friends that I know down in the Panhandle; hoping everything is alright. Steve, Mike, Patty Mc, Wendall, Bill G, & many others. Do not know others in lower Ala, Miss & La; but know that ALL of that sector is in my prayers. Tater50 Columbux LX |
| Aug. 13, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Black Centenarian Tri18: Black Centenarian; I had only used it in BP to get to the 200 breakinh swings in; then used it in 2 games; actually did not swing it 8 times; maybe 5-6. BP was with balls from 2006; they were on the soft side; were dry, never water logged; VERY DISAPPOINTED in this bat!!! Tater50 |
| Aug. 12, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Update on Steve Simmons Met Steve one time; the Columbus 55 & 60 teams will remember him in our prayers. Tater50 |
| Aug. 12, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Black Centenarian Alan: thanks; I got to use this bat in 2 games; that's 8AB; that's $22 a swing.......!!!! I will use what I have; have to hit weights more I guess. Tater50 |
| Aug. 12, 2012 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Black Centenarian Just TERRRRRRRRIIIBLEEE!!!! Can't afford these high priced bats anyway that have NO warranty; I did not even get 250 swings on this bat & got a 4" split. Problem was: I was not even swinging hard. I have an OLD U2 & a tank of a 585 & of course my 2 trusty Original Veloes. Economy the way it is: I will just have to use what I got. 250 swings; about $.75 a swing............Just Terrrrible!!!
