| April 23, 2009 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Woo-freaking-Hoo! It's about time! (Not sure why I had the double post above) Yes, ASA. Not sure on distance to the fence, by next year it will have been 400 feet though. :) |

| April 23, 2009 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Woo-freaking-Hoo! It's about time! One of my main goals since joining my 50 and over team has been to hit a home run. An over the fence home run, that is. I've a had a few inside the park type in the last few years. But I wanted a genuine over the fence kind. I'd come close my first few seasons, banging a couple off the fences and one hoppers from time to time. I'd been going to the gym and lifting weights to try to get stronger but it didn't seem to change the distance that the ball went. Also working against me were changes from 'hot' balls to restricted flight balls along with the hottest bats (Demarini u2's for example) being made illegal. I'd pretty much given up on my dream. Well I don't know what happened last night but I burned the right fielder with a triple my first time up, burned the right center fielder with a double on my second trip to the plate and on my third at bat sailed one over the straight away center field fence to finally get to do a home run trot. YEAH! |
| April 5, 2009 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Does anyone here play ball with their son(s)? I had the great pleasure of playing in a league with my sons for the first time last year. We even had an all Jetboy family double play. My youngest at short, me at second and my oldest son finishing the play at first. The season could have ended right there and I would have been happy. I also must keep playing for another 13 years for my oldest to turn 50 so that we could play in a senior league together. |
| Dec. 21, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Will be in Daytona week of 2/20/2009 Just looking for a place to play, pratice, whatever. I'm 55 and can play any position but pitcher. |
| Aug. 20, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Hip Replacements As a person with a family history of hip problems (mother, brother and sister all have had both replaced) I'm very worried about having to have one. I decided to do something about it. I'm 55 years old, 5' 9" and weighed 245 less than a year ago. I've begun to watch what I eat, actually tracking everything I put in my mouth and I'm down to 180 pounds now. I would reccomend this plan for anyone who is concerned with their hips, it will take a lot of strain off the joint. Also would be a good idea for anyone who has already had the surgery to drop some pounds too. |
| April 4, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: sore quads Larry, I should have read your post more clearly. I tried your stretch exercise with both legs at the same time. Ouch. Gary |
| March 30, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Outfield first base 50 lookking for team Isn't it kind of tought to offer your services in a state the size of CA without narrowing the geographic area down a little? I know it says "Will travel" but even if you are in the middle of the state wouldn't it be at least a 5 hour commute to the northern or southern border towns? |
| Jan. 26, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: hitting the pitcher "Sky King aka Jetboy" What's that about? But to answer the question, no I'm not a pitcher. Never wanted to be one, either. |
| Jan. 25, 2008 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: hitting the pitcher So the pitcher can try to get hit by the ball to earn his defense an out? |
| Aug. 5, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: heart attack As soon as I sasw this: "A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message sends it to 10 > people,' I realized it was an urban legend. Unrelated question. This is a forum for older softball players right? Then why the heck is the typeset so darn small? |
| Aug. 3, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: commit line between third and home "Forgot to add, if you do cross back (try to go back to 3rd base) over in most places your automatically out. " So even if you have to go back because of a fly ball that was caught you are out if you crossed the commit line. |
| Aug. 2, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: commit line between third and home I'm not sure how universal this rule is but we have a committ line half way between third and home. If you go past the line you have to go home or you are out. My question is if you go past the line because you think a fly ball is going to drop in can you come back to third and tag up and proceed home again? |
| July 15, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Called out for carrying the bat Let me add: the umpire did apologize to me during the game for the bad call. He looked it up between innings. Of course that was to late to do anything about the out. |
| July 11, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Called out for carrying the bat In last night's over 50 league game I got called out for carrying the bat to 1st base. The reason I carried it is that I was distracted with a pulled muscle that had me hopping down to 1st. The ump offered to show me the rule and I don't know why I didn't take him up on the offer. |
| June 10, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Bats Discussion: Big League Dreams allow yellow bat I have not been very impressed with my Rip It Senior certianly not compared to my Miken Freak Plus. I take it the ASA label isn't good enough for SSUSA? |
| June 10, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Bats Discussion: SAFETY in SOFTBALL "I sure hope no league allow, or God forbid requires, a screen. What about all of the throws across the infield or to home plate from center or second base that the screen interferes with?" I'm not saying I want the screen, heck I don't pitch and don't want to. But if a screen was considered a good idea the pitcher could be responsible for laying it down or getting it out of the way. Just brain storming here. |
| June 10, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: Bats Discussion: SAFETY in SOFTBALL The fact that these: 1. Running into objects, 2. Incorrect sliding 3. Muscle strains and sprains doesn't have much to do with the severity of the possible injuries from a line drive to the head or chest of a pitcher. 100 sprained ankles doesn't equal one concussion. |
| June 10, 2007 Jetboy | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: save it for the confessional Does any league allow/require the pitchers to pitch from behind a screen? I'm thinking that if any ball to hit it would be called a foul ball it would not detract from the game too much. |
