Discussion: Local leagues testing bats

Anyone else doing this? Our league will not only require the proper ASA logo but will conduct their own testing and put a unique hologram on each bat before it can be used in league play this year.

Discussion: Are some Positions more important than others?

I didn't read every last message in this incredibly long thread but I would like to add a good first baseman is important to a team. Does do much good to have a shortstop with a great glove and a rocket arm if there is no one across the diamond who can scoop the ball up.

Discussion: Something most married guys can relate too...

"Jetboy, in the scenario you describe I'd guess that guys wife has more issues with him than simply not calling her that night."

I don't presume to know what issues the two of them may have, I just found it interesting that it prompted so many of the guys on the team to call there wives the next time we went late.

At a recent ball game we played a make up game an hour after our regularly scheduled 7pm game concluded. At the end of the make up game, as most of us were leaving the parking lot, I saw one of the players wives arrive and give her husband a piece of her mind about him being out so late and not letting her know.

Next game that player wasn't there but nobody had much to say other than "Did you see that in the parking lot last
game?". During this game it was decided to make up another game since one of the teams wasa already there on another field.

At the conclusion of our first game I said to a group of teammates "I think I'll call my wife and let her know we've got another game" a guy chimed in "I already called mine" and a second player said "Can I borrow your phone to call my wife?"

But for the grace of God go I.

I was in the base line waiting for the throw. I would say I had the ball early enough for him to slide or avoid.

I was playing third and a base runner was trying to advance to third. A good throw to me in plenty of time and I tagged him as he crashed into me. Another player on my team suggested he did it in order to make me drop the ball. Is that legal? If so, should it be?

Discussion: Home plate pitching mat

I'm not quite getting this question:

"Also comments on how the batters box is affected as the mat would narrow the box if not adjuster?"

How does the mat affect the batters box?

(Not sure why I had the double post above)

Yes, ASA. Not sure on distance to the fence, by next year it will have been 400 feet though. :)

One of my main goals since joining my 50 and over team has been to hit a home run. An over the fence home run, that is. I've a had a few inside the park type in the last few years. But I wanted a genuine over the fence kind.

I'd come close my first few seasons, banging a couple off the fences and one hoppers from time to time. I'd been going to the gym and lifting weights to try to get stronger but it didn't seem to change the distance that the ball went. Also working against me were changes from 'hot' balls to restricted flight balls along with the hottest bats (Demarini u2's for example) being made illegal. I'd pretty much given up on my dream.

Well I don't know what happened last night but I burned the right fielder with a triple my first time up, burned the right center fielder with a double on my second trip to the plate and on my third at bat sailed one over the straight away center field fence to finally get to do a home run trot. YEAH!

Discussion: Does anyone here play ball with their son(s)?

I had the great pleasure of playing in a league with my sons for the first time last year. We even had an all Jetboy family double play. My youngest at short, me at second and my oldest son finishing the play at first. The season could have ended right there and I would have been happy.

I also must keep playing for another 13 years for my oldest to turn 50 so that we could play in a senior league together.

Discussion: Hip Replacements

As a person with a family history of hip problems (mother, brother and sister all have had both replaced) I'm very worried about having to have one. I decided to do something about it. I'm 55 years old, 5' 9" and weighed 245 less than a year ago. I've begun to watch what I eat, actually tracking everything I put in my mouth and I'm down to 180 pounds now.

I would reccomend this plan for anyone who is concerned with their hips, it will take a lot of strain off the joint. Also would be a good idea for anyone who has already had the surgery to drop some pounds too.

Larry,

I should have read your post more clearly. I tried your stretch exercise with both legs at the same time. Ouch.

Isn't it kind of tought to offer your services in a state the size of CA without narrowing the geographic area down a little?

I know it says "Will travel" but even if you are in the middle of the state wouldn't it be at least a 5 hour commute to the northern or southern border towns?

But to answer the question, no I'm not a pitcher. Never wanted to be one, either.

So the pitcher can try to get hit by the ball to earn his defense an out?
