| June 9, 2011 4Four4 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: National Senior Games Any bat sellers going to be at the NSGs in Houston? We expect to break a few... DH - #4 AO/BB |
| June 1, 2011 4Four4 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: No illegal runner penalty? Thanks guys - SSUSASTAFF owes us an apology and corrective action report (fat chance..) - at least the TD should acknowledge the blown call (slim chance..) - it was a long way to go for some of the poor calls we saw. |
| May 27, 2011 4Four4 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: National Senior Games We won the 55Gold in Palo Alto 2years ago but its not a "World" or "National" competition softball tourney - at least not yet. If softball is all you do - this won't make you happy. What it really was for us - it was an Olympic atmosphere with thousands of diverse participants competing at high levels in many of the sports we all did besides baseball.I was a pole-vaulter but I can't imagine doing 13ft. now like these guys do.(Stanford U. was the main track venue.) I've never been to Huntsman but that sounds similar but smaller. The softball venue is a Big League Dreams complex - Yankee Sta./Fenway/Wrigley etc. We're not a sponsored team - and we're not rich - but we hope to have as much fun in the Houston area as we did around San Fran. (Never been to a beach in Texas - can't wait.)We heard there's good food, too. Oh - and the big heavy shiny gold-looking medal on a ribbon they gave us will be great to drape over one of my grandkids when they need to "win" something someday. DH - #4 AO/Bathtub Billy's |
| May 25, 2011 4Four4 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: No illegal runner penalty? Bases loaded/NO outs. Batter hits deep fly ball to LCF that is caught for out #1. All 3 runners move up (3B scores - men on 2nd and 3rd). Batter takes over as 1B coach. Just before the next HE JUMPS ON 1B and the pitch is hit for a single scoring men from 3B and 2B. He runs to 3B (nobody expected him to be on). Batter stays a 1st. When play stops we immediately tell homeplate ump (2 umps in game)about this runner. Runner hears this and leaves base to his dugout admitting he was out. Umpire says that there was no change in the play because of his actions so there is no penalty. We disagreed. The Tournament Director is called over and he promptly agrees with the ump. No penalty. So you can just jump on and run the bases and if you get away with it everything is cool? Doesn't sound right to me - what do you think? |
| March 14, 2011 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Which Is Tougher? SU&P - Baseball! Played 3b/C in both for many years. Play even with the bag. Its always been harder for corner IF to see location on a pitch - especially if its a curveball/slider/k-ball. The ball itself is harder with relatively larger stitching causing it to bounce off field surface imperfections differently. More "true" hops in softball. And, 70ft. sound s good to me,too. #4 - DH The Tub |
| June 4, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: Bats Discussion: TITANIUM /COMPOSITE BAT Capt - I have a -5 (34/29) Lvlle TPS titanium thin wall with a NITROGEN BLADDER in it that was actually NABA legal 9-10 years ago (baseball). This bat is a weapon! I once hit a ball seemingly just over the pitchers head and over the center field wall into the Genesee River and I never even felt it go. Talk about he trampoline effect. U2 don't compare to this - but my Maxload is really hot. DH - #4 Roc City 55s Roc City 55s |
| May 13, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: curveball Stick - Over-running 2&3 isn't working in our 50+ league. While the intent is for safety's sake the result is not. When a runner must go to the base (Sliding or not) - at least both he and the fielder know where he's going to go. Over-running puts them both in jeopardy of collision, and I've seen some hard one's with no malice intended - just indecision or lack of control. Our fields are turf with no dirt (skin) on the infield anywhere except home plate so sliding also is a problem - not illegal - just bloody. Tags are required without a forceout in effect. We are trying to get this changed. DH - #4 RC55 |
| May 5, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Son of a ................. Jon - just ask the man if he thought it was already cracked but be prepared to buy him a new one (about 180). I use the U2Maxload red and I break them. First they crack and the are still hot until the crack breaks. They spiderweb a bit before the crack but its such a good senior bat that I don't care. (My next one is somewhere in UPSland as we speak.) They break easy but don't sweat the small stuff - offer to buy it and he should offer to split it. Good luck this year. DH - #4 ROC City55s |
| May 3, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Glasses Work We get alot of bad hops at rocket speed in this game. In tournament racquetball, it always the mishit shot that hits you from a wierd angle that you can't react to. A significant amount of eye injuries are now being prevented using safety eye glasses/guards. Please consider this a reminder. Armor up. Play hard. DH - 3B/LF #4 RC55s |
| March 22, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Way to go, Guys Who decided that softball is a non-contact sport? Just as a good, clean, hard slide (no malice intended) is a significant offensive tool - the skill required to throw out, catch, and tag the runner is necessary and decisive. This ain't co-ed rec ball. We play it because its as close to the "real" thing as we can get. Please don't water these plays down. (I caught hardball into my 50s, I miss the plays at home plate.) | Feb. 8, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: BRING YOUR LONGJOHNS TO THE TOC Ha! The dome we practice in never gets to 60. Most mornings you can see your breath but most of us still wear shorts. The TOC in Florida will still be a treat for many of us from the N.E. Good luck to all - arrive safely - play hard. DH #4 |
| Feb. 7, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Move the TOC Hope you boys from the Middle Atlantic Conference all make it out OK. Way up here in Northwestern NY we're ready to play the TOC - but I guess we don't get as much snow as you anymore... DH #4 |
| Jan. 20, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Flared or cone knob ??? #6 and guys - Thanks. I was made to take a single layer of tape off my bat during a tourney game (in Canada) and it ruined the underlying grip beneath for the rest of the weekend. I will try this cone at the cages - I drop 1 finger now and would like it even higher. DH - #4 The Tub |
| Jan. 20, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Masks or Helmets Nobody wants a pitcher to get hurt and it's not "unmanly" to choose to use personal protection devices - just a preference. I would like to see our pitchers use something - our team would buy it for them - but ultimately, it's their choice. Without turning this excellent thread into an advertisement - can someone give us an example of what would be considered "acceptable headgear" under this rule? I'd really like our pitchers to consider it. Thanks. DH - #4(3B) The Tub |
| Jan. 19, 2010 4Four4 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Flared or cone knob ??? Is it illegal to have more than 2 layers of tape but not illegal to use things like these?? I'm not against either but this seems inconsistant to me. DH - #4 The Tub |

| Dec. 22, 2009 4Four4 | Topic: Product review Discussion: protection Ceres-nope-play 3B and joke was meant for me and my teammates- we still have fun and don't need anybody hurt. Was hit in the cheekbone with a bad hop earlier this year but got my smile back when SS told me - could have been worse - you could have pooped your pants. Called me chknsht and told me to OLE' the next high bounce. E4 - chill out - or FO - it's not always about you. DH - #4 |
