Discussion: Houston National Senior Games - interested in feedback

Congrats to all the teams that participated in the Senior Games this past weekend. Despite the one day of rain, the rest of blazing hot weather and some organizantional problems I thought the tourney went well. I'm sure the organizers could have used some help but they did their best. Nothing but class teams and team mates. I play for the LA Legends and every game was a challenge. Bathtub Billys are without a doubt the best bunch of guys we have ever played against. We hope to see all of you again somewhere down the line. Again congrats to all.

Discussion: interference or not?

Gentlemen, I think some of you are confusing interference with obstruction. Interference is the offensive player interfering with the defensive players ability to field or throw the ball (such as the runner going into second standing up). This is a judgement call by the umpire and is a dead ball situation. Obstruction is the defensive player impeding the runner and is a delayed dead ball situation. Most umpires will require the runner to attempt to go to the next base before awarding the base. I have seen situations where the runner has collided with the first baseman in his basepath and because of the collision, the runner had to crawl back to first. Sometimes the umpire will award an additional base if he thinks the runner would have had an easy double. Either way, it's a judgement call as most of them are.

Discussion: Five run equalizer

To SSUSA staff - Dave, unlike the mens division, there is no major, aaa,aa or any level notation for the womens division. There is also a huge difference in skill level from 50div to 60div. Playing 5 innings and only getting 4 runs is not applying the equalization rule fairly. I just think there should be some way to spread out the runs so the older teams can receive the amount of runs in order to balance the game.

Discussion: Five run equalizer

To SSUSA staff - our ladies 60 team played in the chili pepper and was supposed to receive 7 runs from the 50 teams. They did't start getting runs until the second inning and since the time ran out, they only played five innings. Consequently, they only got 4 runs instead of the 7. I protested to the director but he said that was all they could get. Some thing needs to be done so they can actually use their equalizer.

Discussion: SPA TOURNAMENT IN BAYTOWN THIS PAST WEEKEND

I play for the LA Legends and as a whole, even though we won the 60 Div championship, we were very disappointed in the quality of the umpiring. I agree with JR, the use of local umpires caused a lot of problems. Not only did they not know the rules, but there were several incidents of some home cooking for the local team. When an umpire calls the players by their first name, you can bet there will be favoritism. Having said that, I think Lonnie and his crew did their best to give us a good tourney. The weather turned out great and all the teams we played had super guys on them. Getting together with good guys and playing a game we all love is what it is all about. I will say it does feel better when your win. LOL. Congradulations to all the teams that participated.

Discussion: Ridge Hooks comment

Fleetfoot, if you did that at Ridge's next tournament, he would not stop you. However, he would pray for you, but because, like me, he fought for his country and believes in every citizens right to worship or not worship as they see fit. I have a feeling that your group would be so small that no one would notice anyway. Again, if you don't like it, don't go, you won't be missed.

Discussion: Ridge Hooks comment

Fleetfoot, if standing in a circle and praying either before or after a game offends you, then HELLO, DON'T DO IT. If getting awards and paperwork with "To God be the Glory" offends you, then HELLO, DON'T TAKE IT OR THROW IT AWAY. This is a private organization with the right to do whatever they want within it. I for one am glad someone like Ridge has the courage and conviction to stand up for his and many of our beliefs. No one is forcing you to take part in any of these events so don't criticize Ridge for standing up for the principles that are the foundation of our way of life.

Discussion: They Can't Do That?

We played the Indy 60 team in Dalton and although they weren't a strong AAA team, they definitely were AAA. When a team scores as many runs as they did against AA teams, they need to be moved up. Their shortstop, WOW, hit as hard as any player we played against and although they had a few weaknesses, they were competitive. They should add some better players and compete as a AAA team next year because they are not far from a really good team. My kudos to them for accepting the challenge and playing their best. I have known Ridge for 15 years and know him as an honorable, christian gentleman. I for one am glad a TD made a move that was right and maintained the parity in the AA division.

I'm a 60AAA player and will be in Huntsman with my wife. I'm an infielder and a pretty good hitter. If anyone needs a player I will bring my gear.

Discussion: Texas State Championships

La Legends(AAA) had to drive 8 hours to get to Dallas only to play 4 games before we got to play another AAA team. How can you seed a AAA bracket when you play a AA team and a major team in seed play? The team that won added 3 65 Major players (all 3 home run hitters) to their roster on Friday evening. The Dallas Spurs (AA) played in the AAA bracket and the tourney director said he did'nt know why they were not in the AA bracket. The fields were great, the ground crew did a great job and the umpiring was just OK in our games. We were glad to hear that next years tourney was going to be 3 days instead of two. One team had to forfeit a game because they had played 4 games back to back on Saturday afternoon in the Dallas heat.
We only had one PPR incident and it was called correctly by the umpire. Still a bad rule as is the home run rule imho.

Discussion: WHAT BALL FOR RENO

We ordered new balls for our league here in Houston. Kevin informed us that the old balls we had been using were not available until late May. So, he sent us the ones marked with ASA saying they were the same ball. WRONG! They are nothing close to the old ball! I have been watching the discussions between Einstein and Kevin and now am starting to question Kevin's verasity. Obviously these balls are different. It does'nt take a rocket scientist or an Einstein to hit 2 balls and tell the difference. I am told we will be returning the ASA balls and hopefully be getting the old ones back.
