| Jan. 11, 2011 pitcher55 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Reebok Melee Deliveries wagon487,i just googled (pitchers killed while playing softball & players killed while playing softball).this will give you the proof your'e asking for. i love to swing senior bats.i'm waiting arrival of my gates veteran gba.but i'm all for safety.i would like to see a slower ball first.if that don't work,then go to 98mph bats.however,i will go along with what the majority wants.rules are changed all the time,for the benefit of the majority.the fact remains,players are dying and getting seriously hurt from the 100mph bats.wagon,i'm not your enemy,just a ballplayer.GOD BLESS YOU,DENNIS. |
| Jan. 11, 2011 pitcher55 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Reebok Melee Deliveries jano,i retired two seasons back after 38 years in the "kids leagues & tournies.i've seen lots of changes in the bats.balls got softer,as they were 47 core blue dots.most leagues & tourneys,use 44's.the tournys i've been running in mammoth lakes,i use 40 core,because of the 8000' elevation.very good travel teams play there every year.they told me if i didn't restrict the bats,they wouldn't come back.i've had some expierence with this suject over the years.i was invited to pitch for a men's tourney about a year ago in vegas.it was a usssa.i got set after my pitch.glove about a foot off my left thigh.the batter hit the hardest shot i ever saw.it went between my glove and thigh.i did not have enough time to move my glove ONE INCH.had that ball hit my chest,my heart could have stopped.face or head,i know i would not be talking right now.as we walked off the field after the 3rd out,i told the manager not to call me for any usssa touneys.that batter latter hit one over a 300'fence with a 50'high net.i love to play ball.it's just so much more dangerous nowdays.the young guys are swinging 98 mph shaved bats.their usssa tourneys are using 100+mphshaved bats,and we use 100+mph bats .i want to believe that us old guys won't cheat &shave,but probably some out there.you could still get a base hit with a 98,we did it for years with the cu31&405.the infielders and pitcher would enjoy the game more.everbody loves to hit with senior bats(me too).no pitchers had to wear mask&shin guards 20 or 30 or 40 years ago.i'm all for change when it's good.it's not as fun playing scared.i am very happy and impresed with ssusa.they are very organized.i feel blessed that i could come out of retirement,with this org.and have a 2nd career.i'll voice an opinion sometimes,but will always go along with the majority. | Jan. 5, 2011 pitcher55 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Strength Building Suggestions Wanted surf88,i wrapped a medium strength bungie cord around a post on my deck and used it about 3 weeks,then went to a sronger one wich i still use daily.been doing this about 6 months now.it has really built up my strength and muscle tone in my grip,wrist,forearm,bicept,backarm,shoulder and chest.colors may vary by manufacter.i bought an assortment in a plastic container from home depo.wrap it around a post about waist high.stand back till it is snug.face the post,elbow at side or a little out front,pull it toward your ear,20times.turn you arm down across your body,elbow pointing to post,palm facing ground,pull to your chin.next,arm strait down at your side,pull back behind you.next,turn around,your back to the post,arm strait down,pull in front of you.finaly,stand sideways to the post,arm bent 90 degrees at elbow,pull across your chest just pass other shoulder.this one builds your chest and shoulder.i do all this with each arm.i do all this at 20 to 30 reps,each arm and repeat it 2 or 3 times.start slow so you don't hurt yourself.if you do,stop and just work the other arm till tomorrow.it doesn't take long to feel and see results.good luck in your recovery. |
| Jan. 4, 2011 pitcher55 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Plate & Mat as Strike i started pitching in 1972,with a 14 inch corkball,unlimited arc,the plate and mat was a strike.always playing in so.calif.i have seen a mat that fit behind the plate,an extended mat that fit behind and had a 2 inch strip up each side of the plate,and the extended matthat totaly covered the plate.the last one is the best.with a scoring line behind the plate,might as well cover it up.one consistant stike zone is best.it is not as easy in sb to locate your pitches as it is in baseball.i,ve pitched them both alot.the pitcher does not have an advantage greater than the senior bat.i have watched a friend of mine get his eye socket shattered from a shot off the front edge of the mound.he has double vision in that eye.all mounds in slowpitch should be flush with the ground.i can not believe some complexes have a raised mound.that is so dangerous.each inning as i take the mound,i pull dirt up in front of the rubber.when i say mound,i meant rubber.in vegas,the rubbers were 2 to 3 inches above the ground.crazy and extremely dangerous.and when a pitcher must put on hockey gear to allow him a better chance of not being killed,it is way past time to eliminate the threat.most players that disagree,play deeper. |

| Jan. 3, 2011 pitcher55 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Little League bans all composites while i love to swing a hot senior bat,i would prefer that they go away.our kids and grandkids deserve to play this game in the safest enviornment we can give them.if just one child dies because of a hot bat,then ban them.ban them at every level.iv'e starred down the barrel of thousands of hitters from 50'away.iv'e been hurt plenty.when people are dieingand pitchers wearing masks and other protective equipment,it is wrong wrong wrong!!!these bats are weapons.iv'e pitched many years.i don't wear a mask,i should not half to.and every pitch,couid be my last.and then people shave them!i know lots of hitters disagree with me,most of those players are playing a little deeper. |
