Except for travel, hotels, cars and an occasional team dinner, Sal Candelora from the CT Sportsplex and I pay no one to play amateur softball.

That is one of the reasons that I got out of regular men's softball, where players, even at the "B" level were looking to get paid to play, with some sponsors being perectly willing to do so. It had become ridiculous.

If having your weekend expenses (other than your food and off field activities) taken care of by your sonsors isn't enough for you, then you need to find another sport to play.

There is no room in senior softball for pay to play.

So far I have found every single one of our players to be very appreciative of the opportunity that they have been provided by Sal & me. No one has ever even asked for food money, let alone some amount of cash.

Mike..Don't bother contacting me...I stand behind my manager Stu Bookstein one hundred ten percent...I have copies of all the communications between you and Stu...and it was you, not him who was rude..He is a person of unquestionable integrity, and you should be ashamed of yourself for some of your comments to him... I have spoken with my players, and we are innocent of any wrongdoing...I believe them, not you...your smear tactics are pathetic as far as I'm concerned, and I could give a rat's ass what you think... From everything that I read and hear, anyone who doesn't kow tow to the great Mike Kelly is either a self serving stooge or a cheater. I'm proud to say that we will be a fully sponsored EASTON team this coming year, so we will be swinging Synergys. let's see what you can do with that after we pound you like we did in the if game in Florida. Oh yea Florida, where you told Red that you wouldn't pitch to Clatter again after you heard the sound of his bat. Now it's Red, Joe, and Chip who are the cheaters. Who's next. In Des Moines you were mouthing off about Damon's bats(behind their backs of course).

Discussion: Not Playing Seeding Rounds

I am the co-sponsor of Thermco / CT Sportsplex. We play 50+ major +. We had a 17 tournament schedule in 2004, starting in March. Most of my players are still gainfully employed, working for someone else. In order to participate in the scheduled tournies, these men used up all of their vacation days, sick days, and personal days at their respective places of work. Now we come to the last major tournament of the year, the SSWC. The tournament starts on Thurs, which requires Wed. travel. That means 3 more days of missed work (and possibly lost wages) to attend the tourney. Since all other organizations require you to play in the round robin games to qualify for the double elimination portion of the tournament, we naturally assumed this to be the case in the SSUSA / SSWC. Had we realized that it was not mandatory to attend on Thurs. and Fri., we definitely would not have done it. 2 extra nights hotel plus 2 extra days of car rental, to say nothing of missed work is too high a price to pay, unless it is absolutely necessary. At the major + level, with only 8 teams (which turned into 7; another issue) being the lowest seed due to not attending the round robin play is no big deal when compared to the advantages in time, money, and wear and tear on the players that is gained by not attending.

The powers trhat be in SSUSA should have made it clear to everyone concerned that attendance at the round robin portion of the tournament was not mandatory.

I want to make it clear that I take nothing away from Kelly's Sports. I'm sure that they had internal problems which prevented their attendance on Thurs. They are an excellent team, capable of winning regardless of the circumstances.

My point is more that every team that entered shoukld have been informed that attendance was not mandatory.

Discussion: SSWC Worlds in Las Vegas:

I just tried to post a relatively long message to this string, congratulating Kelly's and Pine Knob for their 1 & 2 finish in the 50+. major + division, but it did not appear in the string when I hit "post message" I have had similar occurrences in the past, and since I am a one finger, hunt and peck typist, this is very disconcerting. At any rate, I'll try again...Congratulations and Kudos to all concerned on Kelly's Sports and Pine Knob for their fine showing in Vegas. we've played each other numerous times through the season, with the outcome of each game being dependant upon who put it together the best in that particular contest. I eagerly look forward to our next meeting to put it to the test once again. until then...

Let me be the first to congratulate Damon's for their heroic effort in Des Moines, winning 8 straight games in the loser's bracket after losing their first game of the tourney. You are a class bunch of guys, and if it couldn't be us, I'm thrilled that it was you. Great job double dipping Kelly's in the finals. That's two years in a row for you guys, and well deserved. ENJOY!!!!!

Don (JAH4)... Thanks for the welcome...come say Hi (I'm #4 also)...you Georgia boys should have a distinct advantage, since you'll be used to playing in the heat and humidity...luckily, we'll have a full contingent of bodies so that people can get a break...We've had a couple of weekends off to heal up a little, so i'm chomping at the bit to get back out there...look forward to seeing you guys in Boaz.

Thermco / CT Sportsplex will be in Panama City with bells on. We play 50's, major+, and we're looking forward to some great competition from teams like JAH Masters,Extra Innings, Damon's Grill, Mission softball, Pine Knob, Las Vegas Legends, Doc's Greyhounds, Florida Crush,California Rebels, and the Mavericks. Give everyone a heads up about whether your team will be there or not (and why not). This is a premier event.

Discussion: NSA World Championships-July30-Aug. 1st

The Easton SCX2 (which is the original Synergy) is definitely not approved for NSA play. People are probanly confusing it with the Synergy 2, which is a new model this year. The synergy 2 (I don't know the model #) is on the approved list. I am positive about this info, as I was unable to swing my SCX2 at the end of the year, last year. Hope this helps answer your questionSam.
